bedding/floating a savage mk. II?

Well, the barrel should already be floated on a Savage MkII to begin with, but bedding really couln't hurt it. I've been tempted to do this myself with my MII BV and see if I can shrink groups below half an inch at 50yds. Reason I have not done it though is I'm not sure just how much difference it would make seeing as how my Lakefield is unbedded and only has ONE screw holding the stock on, but shoots ragged holes all day with about any ammo I feed it.

Assuming this is a wood stock... my MKII GL was what I call semi-floating (which is probably the worst situation) It may be that it was supposed to floated from factory, but it was not completely floating.
Sliding a paper under the barrel would be quite tight in spots, then ok in others. I used sandpaper to increase the size of the barrel channel until I could slide a fairly thick paper with ease from the end of the stock right to the recoil lug on the barrel. This is will help your shot to shot consistency.

Yeah, that is the case with this one. It's a tackdriver as it is, but I notice that the barrel does have contact with the wood.

I am going to put it on a bipod sometimes to practice for a future long-range rifle, and I understand that contact with the wood is especially a big no-no with a bipod.

While I'm hacking the stock anyway, I figure that pillar-bedding the action in devcon could help as well. I guess it's not as critical as, say, a .308, but I figure the action can still move around a little in recoil.

I'm definitely going to float it now, still thinking about the bedding. Cheers.
