I plan to bed the action on my Sako 75 Hunter with wood stock ... have never tried this before so need tips before I start. My plan is to bed the recoil lug and tang to start. I have a few questions now and will likely have more before I start.

1) Is it OK to bed the tang first, and do the recoil lug later?
2) Should the tang chanel be deepend?
3) Should the tang chanel be "expanded" to provide room for the bedding compund around the metal tang?
4) How do you keep the bedding compound from getting into the female threads of the action when you insert the screws to snug the action down?

1. No. Bed the whole receiver out to the end of the chamber area. Don't forget to use the release agent.
2. It's best to remove about 1/16" to 1/8" of wood inside the whole area you will be putting the bedding compound. A rotary tool(aka a dremel) is good for doing this.
3. See 2.
4. Use the release agent liberally any place you don't want permanently stuck to the stock. Take off the trigger group if you can. Mind you, there shouldn't be that much compound and it's kind of thick when mixed properly. It usually doesn't flow or run. The screw will keep it out of the threads.
If you don't have a rotary tool try Princess Auto. 11150 - 163rd St. N., Edmonton
