I was suggested I bed my rifle, it seems inexpensive, fairly easy and beneficial. Where abouts do you guys get your bedding kit/epoxy?

Are there any sort of epoxies that work well I can get at a local department store? (JB weld, etc)

I'm from Halifax NS, would prefer to keep it local, but don't mind ordering online inside of Canada!

Hi,

I too have a RAR in .22 mag . As you know, the RAR was designed with a floating barrel. Have you slided a piece of paper between the barrel and stock ? I check mine regularly and it's free floating.

As my RAR was a shooter right out of the box, I can't figure how bedding it would be an improvement...

How is yours shooting ? While not being very experienced, I do believe that any fairly good gun will always gain precision with both a better scope and a lot of position & breathing practices.

Good luck !

Mine also has a free floating barrel, however I haven't checked to see whether or not mine is free floating. It shoots pretty good. No issues hitting am empty shot gun shells at 50 yards, but my groupings at 100 aren't anything to be desired. Bedding materials are fairly cheap and I was thinking if for nothing else, the experience on a lesser expensive gun would be nice. Plus it's always nice to do your own custom work to your gun is something you can take pride in no matter how small!

The way the ruger goes into the stock, I can't see how bedding would be worthwhile doing.
I'd try different torque on the actions screws before bedding that rifle.

I saw something about movement in the foregrip when you twist the stock, so i tried it on mine and there's enough flex in the foregrip grip to touch the barrel on either side. I may look into reinforcing the foregrip rather than bedding the rifle. Or maybe both! This is my first rifle, more of an experiment than anything. I'd much rather screw up a 350 dollar gun over a 700 dollar gun.

For release agent I used an old tin of kiwi black shoe polish I found at home. Slap it on thick, allow time to dry, polish to thin layer. Really coat the action screws and their thread holes with it and do not polish those parts. As to whether bedding made any difference for me that has yet to be seen in some warm weather shooting as performance in the cold was crap.

Thanks for thee input!

Today at the range I found one of my action bolts (?) Was very loose and it was allowing the barrel to walk up and down. Probably why I couldn't get super great groupings. Now that that's nice and snug I might head back tomorrow and see if it made any difference
