Looking for opinions from you willy vets of hunting/shooting sport

I would like to build a new platform for hunting and range shooting ( max 3 to 400yds), I know this has been beaten to death :HR: but I have spent hours reading different post, some good information but alas I don't believe was relative to my needs. as this would be my 1st build...

1. what do you think change or add?
2. am I missing anything (beside optics as I will purchase that later)

Caliber .308 / 7.62x51mm
Receiver Remington 700 Long Action or Short?
Barrel free floating 24”, stainless Kreiger heavy match 5R, 1:11.25 Twist, threaded for muzzle break
Trigger Jewell set at 2.5/3.0 lbs no creep break like glass
Handle Badger tactical handle
Stocks HS Precision composite, Aluminum mounting block, bedded, recoil lug, limb saver (want it to be as soft as my wife’s hands)
Magazine 5 round detachable
Bipod Harris LM-S 9” to 13”
Rings Burris extreme tactical
Optics Base 20 moa picatinny rail

Entire rifle matte black

anyways thanks for input muchly appreciated

I would not give up the stiffness of the short action, just in case you decide to build something bigger in the future, given the cost of your components, I would go with a short action to optimize this build, if you decide you need a long action later, get one then, the cost is less than all the other parts you are using now.

I would go with a TPS rail, and rings, I am not much impressed with Burris. TPS is very well priced, very strong.
If you want to shoot competitvely then also get a thread protector for when you have to take the muzzle brake off... And are you serrious about a limbsaver with .308 and a brake :)

Save some money and forget about Jewel, get any smith to install old Rem 700 and set at about 1 to 1.5lbs ,put money into Redding Competition dies AND LAPUA BRASS.
and go with TPS Rings as other member has mentioned

Which will be your primary goal? Hunting or range time? ...If your only shooting out to 400 yards/meters, then you wont need the 20 MOA rail. Any good scope will get you there, on a 0 MOA base.

It's the way CGN is going these days. I'd input but the flame suit is out for repair.

North shore barrels seems like your best bet for your build requirements.

You've got it wrong my friend, the way CGN is going these days is redundant posts that tread the same ground as the ones before, and the ones before that.

IMHO. I don't think you need to drop the cash in to a costume build to shoot 3-400 yr. go get you self a .308 Savage FCP HS precision or Mcmillan. $11- 1400.00 or if your willing to spend the money and want a bullet prof set up look in to the PGW Coyote in .308

@ shabazz what underthegun said is valid.

@ traveler... was looking a a bushnell 2.5 x 10 vortex pst

@ savage 6000 i got a pm from a member and made suggestion of a sendero which makes sense I hadnt taken the weight into consideration

@ roberti11 i looked up the TPS rails and rings...they have some solid reviews. Ty

@steveb67 would be looking for hunting as main objective, but will be hitting a range (petawawa) for target practice...and getting familiar with different loads etc... but my priority is the hunt.

@ manitou210 as for the jewel trigger...you are right after more research I will have the trigger polished and set to 2lbs

many thanks all
