Before you shim, try this!

So, I was sitting there with my M14 looking at the gas cylinder lock that snugged up at 11:00, pondering where I could get some shim washers, and where the hell I left my feeler gauges when I had an epiphany...

What would happen if I removed the gas cylinder lock, and flipped it over?

Well guess what... It snugged up at 4:00 and was tool tight at exactly 6:00

So, when you get your new M14, and you find the gas cylinder lock is loose, try flipping it over to see where it snugs up. You may be pleasantly surprised!

A couple of guys have mentioned the flipping cure. Great idea.

No offense 2katz, but simply flipping the lock over seems like a better idea than whipping out the stone.

No offense taken.
Flipping it may or may not work but stoning it will always work.
Stoning it will give you all the control you need.

Well, I would suggest flipping it as the first step. When flipped, it might not be perfect, but could very well be closer to the mark. At that point you can decide between stoning or shimming...

Skullboy, could you add these tidbits to your M14 FAQ?
