so my mate came up to give me a hand in the Quarry for a few days, one afternoon we knocked off early an went up the road 20 minutes to a property to go for a Hunt to look for a Deer..
my mate is a Truck driver on the highways, but also has a bit of a youtube/faceobok channel on the go an has a fair few followers...good and bad. LOL.

but it was to be his first hunt, ever.

i give him my 222 Sako to use, an said to shoot any deer you see and to hit it 2 inches behind the shoulder should the oppertunity arrise.

i pointed out a rock an log to go an sit behind, there was a kangaroo or two in the clearing he was to watch over an i said to him to stalk into the position an not spook the roo, if you spook the roo the game is over.

he sneaks in after a while , i split off an go stalking my own way. he thinks it s a bit of a 'just sit here an wait' for me moment..
15 minutes later, over where i pointed an mentioned that deer may come out from, he said a bloody deer came walking out an then across, his recount of the hunt was pretty cool, hes not phased to hunt nor kill, but i did say to shoot a deer if it comes out.
mit just come out of the bush an meandered a bit, then came into the clearing an fed for a while toward him, then across, perfect time for a shot he said now the heart rate hat settled a bit after the initial "get phooked" disbelief moment when the deer materialised

broadside, 120-140m 55gr Zmax, one shot, it ran toward him he said about 3 or 4 second and fell over, kicked twice and lay motionless...
he was stoked about this as he wasnt sure how he would go if wounding a deer or the pressure of me if he missed or wounded one LOL.

happy days!!!!!
an meat in the freezer!

Impossible, you can't kill a deer with a 222. You need at least a 300 Win Mag.☺

im a bit spewing i didnt take some photos of the carcass, it was early morning when i cut it up, the prjectile entered an the blood shot 6 inch circle indicated it transferred alot of energy onto that deer i didnt dig around much for this projectile but it didnt make it into the opposite side armpit/ribs.. (again too early, but i wuld of loved to have seen it), il be sure to do a better post shot autopsy on the next one, i can see my young bloke (10 yo) being behind this gun on some doe hunts soon!

a soft point 55gr would be better i rekon for penetration and still put as much energy on the animal.
:0

edit to note 55gr zmax with 17.5gr ar2207 (mild) for est 2700 fps the medicine :p

i would be surprised if the ZMAX made it to the other side hide as it is the same as the VMAX which of course you should only use on coyotes and small game, never deer
