CGN,
I have a quick question, I have a Belgian 1889/36 that was duffle cut either I could fix it or send it to a gunsmith to fix it but before I do anything like that I am curious if they are collectors pieces like this or can I just fix it and enjoy it as a shooter?. It is nonmatching. Normally I would fix it and shoot as that’s what I collect is shooters but I am aware that these are relatively rare and don’t want to bigger up something of value.
Thank you

I would splice the pieces together myself with dowels and a good epoxy glue. You need some basic tools such as dowel locators, a drill press and pipe clamp. But, if you're not comfortable working with wood, by all means let a gunsmith do it.

Not common in Canada. A bunch have been imported in USA from Congo (i think) last summer. They worth about 600$ US in well used non matching condition there. Was thinking about importing one, but a risky shot if i cant see actual rifle. Some are in very poor condition...

In canada, i saw one fore sale for 1500$ (unmatching average bore) also this summer and it sold fast (before i could buy it...). An interesting piece, i am looking for a non sporter for my collection (have a sporter with bayonet lug). I would not bother much and repair it to shoot it.

They were cut when converted from 1889, but i dont think your is a factory cut (far from expert). I think i would dig that before doing anything. Personally, i would ask on the french and belgian forum: https://www.passionmilitaria.com/
