My b&c Alaskan sporter remington 700 stock needs a recoil pad. Does anyone have experience with a pad that will be a near perfect replacement without needing a grind to fit? Some online reading says a limbsaver 10601/10816 "should" fit but id love some first hand experience. Are there any other brands that will work? Subsequently if a grind to fit is needed, what's the best grind to fit? Limbsaver? Kick-ez? Pachmyer? Something I'm missing?

Contact B&C - they might be able to sell you one, but I'd guess that they're grinding them there too. Fitting a recoil pad is a pretty easy job if you can make a simple jig to preserve your angles. I'm sure Youtube has a video or two about this.

As for recommending a pad, it's hard to do without knowing the chambering of the rifle. A hard pad or even a plastic one is better and more durable for mild recoiling rifles (anything under 300mag). For magnums, you may want something softer.

B&C does grind them to fit and it appears that the stock is just slightly larger than a typical bdl stock. That being said remington did use some b&c stocks on their titanium rifles and lvsf models. Il pickup a pad and test fit it. If all else fails I guess il grind one to fit. As for recoil the rifle is a 280ai however, due to a couple of shoulder surgeries I will take all the padding I can get.
