Sears has these benches on sale for $109.99 starting March 7th till April 12th. They may not be the ideal reloading bench for the basement, but I think it might do well for the price.

They also have some tool boxes that would make pretty decent range or reloading boxes on sale then also.

I was thinking of 1 for the basement and bolting 2 together for the garage.

Lowe's has the same bench on for $98.
Also a beefier version with four drawers,a light and a power bar for $178.($?)

wots the height of the work top. I think the specs are giving the top height of the whole unit. 59 inches ??

Picked up the same one (minus the drawers) for $50 on sales at CTC. Replaced the top with 2 pieces of 3/4" MDF.

I am not a Canadian Tire fan, but when I must buy something from them I follow a very strict rule: the item must be on sale. If the thing you want is not on sale, wait a week or 3.

I have one of the CT bench's the blue one with the 2 drawers and light. Here's my problem... the metal that is around the main bench part is just basically and L shaped piece of sheet metal. It's very hard to drill and get the presses to sit on the edge of the bench. It's nearly impossible to get the front 2 holes fastened down on my lee pro 1000's and for my lyman rifle press with just the 2 spots to mount it, it sucks. As well, the particle board top will absorb moisture and swell around every hole you drill in it to mount the press plus it flex's like it's made of cardboard.

I am going to build a cheapie bench using 2x4 framing with a 3/8's thick steel top with a 3-4" overhang on the front to mount my press's.

I suppose if you can get a nice thick piece of plywood to replace the main part of the bench you might be OK but it's still a PITA to mount any press to the front edge of the bench.

Try having a 6"x8" 5/8" piece of steel cut and then have blind holes drilled and tapped so you can bolt it to the bench top from the bottom. Have similar holed drilled on the other side w/ your press bolt pattern. The other thing to remember when building your own bench- the move overhang youv'e got, the more tipping leverage your press has...

I have the cheap Canadian tire version with no drawers, I replaced the top with a thick enought piece of plywood. 3 Coats of Paint, Screwed into the metal and voila ! Oh and don't forget to fasten the bench to a wall to make it a little more stable. I didnt' have too much problems installing my redding press on this bench.

Yeah - what he said. The double thickness of MDF I put on mine is about 4" larger than the original in both length and width. I drilled holes through the sheet metal and fastened the top to the frame. My press is bolted through the MDF, not the metal frame and is plenty solid.

I used to have one, but didn't bother loading it when I moved.
They are wobbly cheep junk.
That being said, if you lag it to the wall, and put a decent top on it, they're probably not bad.

it would probably work but stability is always and issue when relaoding i can't seem to reenforce my bench enough:rolleyes:....

I bought one of these on sale and set it up today. It's easy to set up, but I think I will be buying some self tapping screws and tightening it up a bit. I'll probably change the top to 1/2" finished plywood or something similar and once that is fastened down it will be pretty solid. The top and bottom shelves are presently not fastened to the frame. My wife came downstairs to look at it and said "what is that green thing that looks expensive?" She's pretty sharp.:D

That is funny! It just doesn't cut it all the time using" that old thing I've had it for years"

Can fool em with red once in a while, green and blue they can't be tricked:(

I have the Can Tire model still unassembled as I don't need it at this time. However, when it is assembled, I plan to include some metal braces on the legs from front to back and sloped to give it the extra support in the event a press is eventually bolted to it.

A buddy has one in his garage and it seemed quite sturdy, which was my reference point for buying this when it was on sale about 5 months ago. I think it was on sale for about $60.
