I looked at a bag of #9 shot. But at $75, figured there is just as good for less.

I use washed masonry sand donated by the local concrete batch plant.
Then rinsed it a few more times in a bucket to get rid of the fines and the last organic remnants.

Make sure to spread it out to air and sun dry thoroughly over several days (bring inside during the night). If you funnel moist sand into the bags, you'll get mildew.

I have been using these Caldwell bags for the past two years, they live in the back of the truck, no problems so far. I have filled mine with empty .22 rimfire cases from my club which recommends a mixture of rice and play sand.

I use glass blasting media (used for cleaning metals etc.) which works great for me. It has good weight and conforms well.
