Bending the bolt on a 6.5x55 SM?

Cut it off and weld it back on so that you have more length or it will be to short if you just bend it.

Better yet, either make up a new handle or get an aftermarket handle and braze it onto the bolt body.

Brownells sells the bending blocks. You supply the oxyacetylene torch, hammer and mussels. I would not waste $200.00 welding a new handle on a 6.5x55 sweed. Give your smith 45 bux to hammer it over and do the finishing work yourself. Filing, polishing etc. You get to save yourself $50 bux, have some fun fiddling and playing and you don’t buy a tool that you will only use once. And keep in mind that a $70.00 96 Mauser with a $200.00 bolt handle and a $100.00 drill and tap job is still a $75.00 action. When making stuff with pigs ears work CHEAP. Play, learn and have fun but don’t put a lot of money into it. Rod

i wish more people would realize that last sentance. just because you drop 500+ making a sporterized mouser doesent mean its going to be worth $600 afterwards. its still only a 75-150 dollar gun lol.

Disassemble the bolt body, cut and weld the old handle. You can also lengthen it if you desire at that stage. Either mig, tig or oxyacetylene, whatever your preference. Wrap the bolt body in a damp rag while welding it.

No it is a 1000 gun it just happens that the market is such that you can pick them up way cheaper then you should be able to.

BTW a proper sporter bolt handle is less them 30 bucks delivered. Cut the old one off clean and get a good welder to weld the new one on. You do the dremel and polish work.

It as much work/expense to get a smith to bend one as it is to weld a new commercial handle on. EIther way he has to put it in a jig and burn fuel.
