Hello all

Just a quick question, unable to find an answer on Google.

What is the benefit of a scout scope mount? Makes sense on a top eject rifle(like a win. 30-30), but I have been seeing more and more people mounting on side eject firearms.

Any answers would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Three basic benefits that I know of

1. You can mount them on anything with a barrel, so hard-to-scope rifles like the M1 Garand, or some top eject lever actions can suddenly have optics.

2. You can (should?) shoot with both eyes open, so you have a huge field of view and aren't getting tunnel vision when shooting. This can be both safer and more effective keeping an eye on moving game.

3. Practiced shooters get on-target faster with scout mounted scopes for some reason, and so you get off your first shot that much quicker.

As a bonus, scout scopes are generally smaller and lighter than traditional scopes as well. Down side is they generally are low magnification, like 1.5x or 4x. For shooting out to 300 yards under normal conditions, this does not seem to affect much however.

I have scout rifles and can add two more good reasons; 4. when available the military rifle can be loaded useing charge clips and 5. on heavy cal rifles there is no danger of scope to hit your eye!
