My brother picked this up at a recent gun show. Not a lot of info on it via the web. Anyone know anything about the Benelli line? Whats it worth?

i believe these guns were the forerunners of the benelli mi super 90 series .they have the bolt inertia system and do not use a gas system, but have all the action in the bolt and should be reliable, as it is a simple system .benelli is a quality gun maker. it is probably a cylinder bore . if you measure the inside diameter of the choke you will probably find it is much tighter than american cylinder chokes as that has been my experience . in theory it should pattern tighter . a nice find and it looks good . the question is will your brother let you use it ?

The Benelli SL121/121M1 line of shotguns was based on a tilting lock inertia recoil system. Very simple, allowed use of most any power shell, and incredibly fast cycle time. The later Super 90 series uses a rotating bolt inertia lock system which improves upon the original design.

I have the Beretta 1201FP and 1200FP which share the design with the M1S90 with the rotating bolt as well and most parts are interchangeable.

All inertia operate kick pretty hard and don`t like luggage so don`t add a lot of accessories to the gun.

If your 121 has a large "button" attached to the bolt release, it is set up to allow you to release a shell from the mag onto the carrier. This "Benelli Button" as it was known was originally sold as an accessory, but in late production shotguns was installed at Benelli prior to shipping.

i have the beretta 1201FP gun also and it will allow you to cycle the action without picking up a shell meaning you can drop in a slug or buckshot round on a full mag. i also owned a benelli M1S90 at one time but i prefer the sights on the beretta as they appear to be just like the sights on the benelli121M1.i believe the benelli business was purchased by beretta . i am curious to know how the action is worked on the benelli 121 . is there a release button under the gun to drop a round on the carrier as that is the way the beretta works. i like these italian guns as they operate differently than north american guns and can take a bit of time to figure out the mechanics .you might be able to ghost load a round as the beretta i have will allow it .

The Benelli 121 is supposed to be faster cycling than the later rotating bolt Benellis, I wonder by how much and if the customized lightened bolt assemblies seen on some competition setup M1s and M2s are as fast?

It's probably worth mentioning that the 121 was last produced in 1985 and wasn't all that common so replacement parts can be a major issue.

Beretta own Benelli and I was told Beretta dropped the inertia operate design in favor to Benelli so Benneli can further develop in the law enforcement market while Beretta continute with the gas operate system in the civilian market.

Remember the Beretta M3P?

Its nothing but a Benelli M3 semi and pump hybrid and a few luck cgners has them (non-restricted) and its on my must own one list (LOL).

The Benelli M121 is a very different shotgun, since to load it you push the button on the right side to push up the shell lifter to load the magazine, however pulling the bolt back and releasing it does not load a shell from the magazine. To load you must insert a shell onto the lifter and let the bolt go forward. It will only automatically load from the magazine when the gun is fired. As such you cannot unload the magazine by cycling the bolt. It is necessary to reach in from below to push in the shell holder latch to release a shell at a time from the magazine.
