I know there are a bunch of us who love 28 g so what do you think of the new Benelli Ethos in 3"? Just re inventing the wheel good move or bad ? IMHO always wonder about change for the sake of change.Have 4 28 but don't know if I need a 3" especially if shells are hard to come by ,anyone?

The 3 inch 28 gauge is something new and like most new things, it could take time to catch on.The 3 inch 28 gauge could be a good choice for some one looking to get a bit more bang for hunting pheasant with the 28 gauge,without the need of purchasing another gun.
Where the 3 inch 28 gauge will be the most good ,is with the use of non toxic shot.At present time steel is the cheapest form of non toxic shot.At present time, you cannot really get enough steel shot in a 28 gauge hull,with larger size steel shot being needed, to make it a good performer in the uplands.With more and more places banning lead shot,the 3 inch 28 gauge could be a way to keep the 28 gauge, as a viable gauge for use in the uplands.

I too am interested in the Ethos in 28 ga.

Have always preferred the 20 ga to the 12 ga, but not sure I want to get a 20, when I am having so much fun with the 28!

I have asked Prophet River to find out about the Fiocchi 3" shells for both price and availability, for the Ethos, but have received no answer as yet.

I personally haven't seen any 3" 28ga ammo on the shelves. Like mentioned above would be nice for non-toxic shot with the extra capacity.
I'm going to get some of the 1oz Winchester ammo for grouse this fall. I have the 1100 Sporting 28.

Have used the one ounce Winchester 28 gauge shells on partridge(ruffed grouse) with good results.When using the more open chokes,I find it really helps sweeten the pattern.It has patterned well in the 28 gauge guns I have used, in all chokes.

Good to know!! My 1100 has the briley extended choke tubes. Have skeet, IC, light modified and modified. Gonna do some patterning and see what I get. I'm thinking light mod or mod would be best for partridge.
For the life of me I can't remember which tube my BPS Medallion had in it, I think full. Shot a ton of birds with it at impressive ranges with that gun!
Yes my preferred choke in the 28 gauge for use in the uplands is the modified.In the past I have owned and used the Remington Model 1100 and Browning BPS in 28 gauge.Both worked well,but were a bit on the heavy side, for my taste in a 28 gauge field gun.Also for myself ,I find the BPS shotguns to be a bit long in the stock.
Glad this thread has created some discussion with all the great news out of Ottawa ,I shot the Benelli 20 and 28 in Argentina on a dove hunt back in 2013 about 3500 rounds out of each .was surprised at how hard the 28 hit almost imho as good as the 20 but as far as shooting difference maybe less recoil but they were pretty close in swing and target acquisition so don't know if it would be a step up or not.But do like the 28 still ..and the 3`maybe more..

If the primary reason you want a 28 is for the new 3” capability I would look towards a 20ga. But if you are In the new market for a 28 you may as well buy one that tickles your fancy with a 3” chamber. I think 1oz of shot is sufficient for almost all upland hunting, the 3” chamber with Bismuth would be a nice fun for the timber or woodducks and teal.
I am a fan of the 28, currently have a Savage Milano and I would like to add a semi in this gauge. The Ethos has my attention, I shot a similar shot gun in 12 last year for some informal backyard trap and loved it, I would think the 28 would be more of a good thing.
