Seems as description on whether these tubes will accept Steel are non existent. I'm look for a Full choke that takes Steel. The one the came with the gun won't take it.

I have to say, the only downside to these Benellis are find parts.

Thanks for the help.

If you haven't already ,try patterning your Benelli using the modified choke, on my friends SBEII he gets full choke patterns from steel (80%) @ 40 yards. It could be Benelli rates their chokes for lead performance rather than steel. I know choke is defined by the amount of constriction but as a rule steel patterns tighter than lead probably due to less pellet deformation and maybe different wad construction, either way I usually get full choke patterns when using steel in modified chokes.

I found the same thing as hunter5425, my sbeII patterns steel through a mod choke, the same as lead through a full.

Interesting observations. I haven't done an actual patterning with my Super Nova, but I was hoping to have a tighter choke last night in the duck blind. I did see some Carlson tubes online that will take Steel. Are these any good?

Steel patterns better with a more Open Choke. The tighter the choke the more the Steel Shot gets "bounced" around during constriction, thereby blowing open the pattern. I get my best patterns with Improved-Cylinder with steel!

You are hadicapping yourself using a full choke firstly you will probably get blown patterns, secondly under 40 yards which is the Ethical range of steel shot a full choke is a handicap your pattern is too small, unless you are a great shot Light modified or Modified would probably suit you best. I shoot Improved cylinder for all my waterfowling.

I use the Carlson chokes in both Sporting extended and field and very satisfied with them.

I have purchased chokes from Carlson's and have believe them to be first-rate. I have found improved cylinder, improved modified or modified chokes are the best to use with steel shot. You have to pattern your shotgun with the above choke constrictions at the distances you usually shoot birds at. Are you a pass shooter or do you shoot over decoys?

I don't believe that full chokes are not designed for steel shot. My Benelli Nova full tube is marked not for steel shot. Like the guys said today's mod choke with steel are roughly the same as yesterdays full with lead.
