Benelli M2 for Clay shooting

I understand that this isn't the appropriate tool for the range. However, I would much appreciate input from folks who may be using one with some regularity for SC/Skeet.

May not be out of place to mention that I've owned a couple in the previous years but haven't used those much at the range other than few sporadic Trap sessions. Never had issues whatsoever but then again I was only using that in the sense more as a single shot.

I realize that experience with different individual M2s may vary based on many factors. However, what I would like to learn is how the M2 generally performs "under pressure" during SC/Skeet shoots?

Before anyone recommends the Beretta - I must inform you that I don't care much for that design/profile :D (personal point of view only).

Moreover, the Benelli Supersport is kinda out of bounds for me at this time.

I've owned two M1's that saw some skeet and Sporting Clays use. Great guns and will fill the crossover nicely of a field or sporting gun. Sold them and my go to field or foul weather day sporting gun is a SBE 26" as I found it just worked better for me than the M1's.

Have a SuperSport and only good things to say about it. Traded several away to get it but no regrets.

That's the intent. Instead of getting another O/U, I am currently thinking of a semi (for a bit of diversity).....something that wouldn't have trouble merging to/fro into the two different roles. I much favour Benelli inertia guns as the feature make it comparatively more slimmer than gas operated designs.

The SuperSport (walnut) is a very nice semi, however, the bbl porting doesn't personally appeal to me (no offence :))....reason why it is out of bounds.

i use my m2 to shoot trap almost every week at 2 different clubs , dont have a sporting clay range close but have used and with good result, same can be said for skeet. one day i woke up and remembered that i shoot trap and clay sports to make myself a better hunter , thus traded 625 sporting on m2 and have had great success, not to mention i dont get all bent out of shape if i scratch the m2 like i would have if i scratched the 625

As long as you have any shotgun with a hunting barrel (i.e. over 24"), I say giv'er. I shoot mixed clay sports with my pistol grip Fabarm pump all the time, and score mid-high teens, but whenever a I pick up a nice O/U, I always seem to get two or three more each round.

I'm glad that there are folks here who support the M2 in it's role as a target gun.

Personally, I wouldn't trade a quality O/U for an auto :) besides I'm afraid my retention level + loyalty towards auto/pumps is almost always quite short lived :redface:

Having said that, I shall probably go for an M2, again. I shall try to hold on to one this time. Consistent use of breechloading guns only can start to get boring at times. Shall decide next week. Thanks again, all.
