Benelli M4 broken gas piston

Anyone break theirs? I did this past weekend. I know I can get them from Brownells. Is there a place in Canada to get them Stoegers maybe?
what will be replaced under warrentee if it cracked by stoeger, if they ever answer the phones , I have been trying to get parts fro mthe for my M2 for weeks, no one returns calls.
bbb

Called Stoeger and have one coming was 90 bucks.

How did it break. Shooting 3 inch win bb loads all the sudden action jammed looked inside and one of the pistons had snapped off right where it stops on the barrel. Removed broken piece and tried using with one piston. Gun still performed for a few shots after and then I stopped. #### happens I guess.

That is unusual. But everything mechanical can fail, perhaps a heat treatment defect ?

I am one of those belt with suspenders kinda guys, I have a small stash of M4 spare parts, just in case.

Very odd, but not impossible!

Even the mighty M4 isn't indestructible. Glad you got the new piston, I've been thinking of getting some spare parts for mine, 90 bucks doesn't seem to bad for a piston.

I burnt out a piston in a Benelli R1 rifle. It took 15 boxes of HotShot brand ammo without cleaning it. The early ones were an alloy that would corrode under the piston rings. They have since update to a 2 piece piston and the part where the rings are is stainless.

You're failure looks corroded too, but probably just dirty as it doesn't look like an alloy part.

so what else would be good to keep in an M4 spare parts kit? Didn't think a piston would snap like that...

I have, what I feel to be the usual wear/breakage items for a semi auto, or those that might get easily lost.

Firing pin, firing pin spring, firing pin retaining pin, extractor, extractor spring, extractor pin, cam pin, ejector housing/spring/rivet/ejector/retaining pin, carrier release catch/spring/pin, gas system o-rings, magazine spring.

I also have a spare barrel complete which gives me all the barrel mounted components such as gas system parts, ejector parts and front sight.

I intend to keep and use my Benelli for many years.....

I would think the receiver would wear out before the barrel no? All those things are now on my shopping list. A 14" barrel would be too if it was affordable, but 1400$ just hurts too much.

Agreed, wearing out a barrel is unlikely. However damaging one is possible. Denting or bending due to a bad fall or rough use. I have seen front sight assemblies get damaged or knocked off. I recall someone laying their rifle down and it was backed over by a vehicle ! With a piston at $90 and a gas sleeve at $110, times two, you are at close to $500 with taxes, shipping, duties etc. for just those parts, so for me, having a complete barrel assembly is worth it.

I shoot, and intend to shoot, my M4 for a long time. If a part needs to be replaced I don't like to wait, or worse, can't obtain the part and you are stuck with a safe queen until it is repaired.
