Benelli M4 w 14" barrel & Choke

Couple of questions:

1) Can the barrel of the 14" Benelli M4 be tapped to accept a modified choke tube ?

2) Would it be a good idea ?

Yup , but why ? M4 is a semi-shotgun design for military purpose ,there must have a reason that the factory didn't make it a multi-purpose gun ,at least my M4 didn't cycle good on 12 ga 2 3/4 .

I think its a good idea in that: A) it provides you a means of influencing a sot load that might not pattern well from an open choke barrel or help the accuracy of a slug load that doesn't perform well from an open choke, and B) the thicker barrel wall of a flush thread-in choke tube, or a choke tube that extends beyond the factory muzzle, such as a breeching choke or a turkey choke, protects the muzzle from inadvertent damage.
 
Thanx guys. You've helped me decide. I think I'll get both the M4 and the 590 done.

I presume I should acquire the chokes I intend to use first ?

no, let casey decide what to use, the 590 should be no problem but the benelli might need thinwall choke tubes, check out brownells for them for an idea.....

the mossberg I would get done for factory mossberg chokes so it is not confusing if you ever sell the gun.

here is a link to colonial arms choke tubes, and they do list a set for beretta/benelli M1..... which may or may not fit.
