Good morning, i have been having a bit of trouble with the accuracy of my benelli mr1. Best group it would shoot from new is about 5-6 “ at 100 yards with handloads.
I saw a post on another forum that someone found their barrel was loose where it threaded into receiver. I checked mine and it also seems to wiggle back and forth on the threads when you grib the bare receiver and barrel firmly.
So i contacted stoeger canada to proceed with warranty and the guy claimed there should be some play there? That seems wrong to me.
Any input before i send this off for warranty would be appreciated. Thanks

No sir, the barrel should not wobble at the receiver.
I had mine cut ,recrowned & threaded for a dlask linear comp.
The skinny barrel heats fast & groups open up .
Mine likes lighter 50-55 gr but still won’t do better than 1” at 50 yards#♂️

Im not too impressed with this benelli, iv never had to warranty anything gun related before. Especially something major like a loose barrel. I guess a 2000 price tag doesnt mean quality

When I had one, Jason at Guncoe in Ottawa was always good to work on it under warranty. You might want to give him a try, since you are close by.

The barrel should obviously not have any play with the receiver.

5 MOA is pretty significant stinging, does that really happen to you after a couple of mags? I've had 2 MR1's and both shot decent groups...

I have filed a warranty claim with stoeger canada. Once the contact me ill weigh my options. I think they might have timed the threads wrong for barrel and it has to be backed off a bit so the argo gas block will line up with gas piston shaft.

So the barrel to receiver is still loose, stoeger canada did nothing. I wasted 80$ shipping it there.
All they did was tighten down the argo nut all the way. Which doesnt even need to be all the way tight anyways.
Gun still shoots minute of pie plate . Even better stoeger canada mislabelled my address on return shipping and the damn gun was misplaced in the mail. I had to call canada post to sort it out.

Damn, that sucks. When you say the argo nut, is that the one with the big spring holding the gas block to the piston, or the gas block to the barrel?

I am looking for a Synthetic MR1 in 300 win mag.....

So is it better off to stick with BAR ?

Are you thinking of the R1 not MR1? Similar argo system though

Yes big nut with spring to disassemble it. I usually crank it down a lot but not all the way. All the warranty place did was tighten it down. Barrel still loose after I explicitly told them on phone what problem was and they had the gun in their hands.

I’m not even sure where to go from here with the gun, sell it at a loss, pay a proper gunsmith or try to contact benelli in Italy or something.

There was a 2015 thread (well 3 by the same member about the same issue) here where someone had a similar issue with loose barrel and poor accuracy. Took it to the vendor where it was purchased who put a new barrel (possibly complete upper?) and fixed the issue. They might have more weight dealing with Stoeger.

Another thread had issues with the crown, but it doesn’t sound like that’s the issue since you’ve noted the barrel fitting.
