Benelli MR1 Sight-in

Bought a gently used MR1 last month and had a nice day today to get out to the range. Came with a Burris 3-9X 30mm tactical reticle with a shoot thru mount, 2 LAR 10 rd mags and the kit for the forend accessories. I shot it when I first got it with some cheapie Serbian FMJ ammo and the accuracy was unimpressive at longer ranges. Went out today with a box each of Rem., Win. and Federal premium ballistic tip ammo 55gr. to see what worked the best. All were pretty good but the Rem. and Win. seemed to have a flyer about 1 in 4. The best group was the Federal 55gr Nosler ballistic tips. About 1.5" 5 shot at 100yds. A buddy who shoots alot told me the 62gr bullet was the best in a 1:9 twist but didn't see any options in that weight were I bought shells.

More like a float than a weld. The scope is higher with the sight thru mount than it would be if you took off the rear sight and used low profile base and rings. I may try that as well. This was the way it was set up when I got it and I can shoot it alright like this
 
That's a ###y looking gun. I think a flash hider would round it out pretty nicely. Can you please post a pic with the LAR 10 round mag in it. I can't wait till mine gets here. I think I will probably go with the Aimpoint Compm4s sight. Given the accuracy that this rifle seems capable of, I think it would suit it well and probably look pretty sweet too! Thanks for the range report. The more information we can get on these the better.

I've mounted scopes high-up before, no problem....:yingyang:...but I'd definitely use quick-detach rings....:p

The factory trigger-pull on the Benelli is a heckua lot nicer than a "stock AR" one...;)

What brand and model is that mount and rings?
 
The rings and base are one unit P.E.P.R. by Burris.

Thanks be2man! It looks pretty sweet with the mag couplers on there. I guess the only downside would be lying prone and getting gunk in the second mag. I have heard that the Benelli's stock doesn't lend itself particularly well to shooting from this position anyway. How do you find it to shoot prone? What do you think of the Benelli Tri-Rail (build quality, strength, attachment points)? I didn't notice it mounted in your pics. Hopefully someone will start supplying some aftermarket parts for these guns.
 
THANK-YOU I've been eyballing ons of these forever but i was always concerned about the scope being up to high on it. have you tried the irons? does the peep sight work very well at distance?

The ghost ring is tough to see under the see thru mount and the peep is fairly large for longer range accuracy. The front post is pretty course as well but I think irons would be decent out to 50yds. Apparently some have a smaller peep as well but mine doesn't. Its gonna be mainly a hunting gun for me so I might remove the rear sight and put a lower mount on. Alignment is good for the peep and would be good for optics with low mounts. I haven't shot it prone just off the bench so far.
 
Perfect. When fondling it in the store i thought the apurture seemed large. I think i get the front rail kit and mount a red dot on the side for closer in and remove the rear sight for mounting a scope for distance. it'll be a wonderful 3gun machine i think.

I think the iron sights are meant for distances in feet rather than yards, but I may play around with them if I get some quick release scope mounts
The rail kit for the front bolts on thru holes that need to be opened up in the groove on either side of the forestock below the front sight wings. It seems too far forward to me for a vertical grip but you could put whatever else you wanted up front, I can post up some pics of the parts when I have a chance if you'd like.

The product is called a scope eze, and you can find it on brownells. It worked fairly well.
 
Why is it backwards? It looks like the perfect mount for that rifle, as low as the irons allow, correct eye relief, see-through for iron sight use...but he didn't put it on like all the AR guys do!!! What a radical thinker!!

What's next...putting on pants left leg first???

The scope and mounts came on the gun. Can't see how it makes a difference. The eye relief is good and it follows the contour of the rear sight. I'd guess it'll be fine unless it starts getting annoying running into AR guys at the gunclub telling me it's on backwards.:ar15: It's my basement floor and a plastic stock sorry if it offends :rolleyes:

Owe you both an apology and recant my previous smartassedness. Turns out it does make a difference which way the PEPR is on the gun. Had a few failures to eject brass and it looks like the brass is hitting nut on the mount which should be on the other side and not clearing the action as the bolt returns. Will turn it around and resight
