Shotguns. Simple, brutal, and reliable. When it comes to pump-action shotguns, a few names stand out—Remington 870, Mossberg 500, and Benelli Nova.

Now, Benelli has refined their classic Nova and introduced the Nova 3—a faster, more tactical evolution of an already legendary platform.

What’s New in the Benelli Nova 3?
-Shorter cycling stroke: Chamber reduced from 3.5" to 3", increasing cycling speed by 14% for faster follow-up shots.

-M4-inspired bolt face: Borrowed from the battle-proven M4, ensuring durability and reliability in harsh conditions.

-Enhanced ergonomics: Diamond grip stock for a secure hold, even in wet or gloved conditions.

-Enlarged loading port: Faster reloads for seasoned shooters.
-Shell stop button: Allows quick shell ejection without cycling another round—a game-changer for hunters switching loads.

Price and Availability
-The Benelli Nova 3 series starts at $529usd, according to Benelli’s website.

-The Nova 3 Tactical model is listed at around $549.99, depending on the retailer.

This isn’t a radical redesign—it’s a thoughtful evolution that makes an already great shotgun even better.

What do you think? Does the Nova 3 live up to the Benelli name?

I like that sub 6 lb weight but I couldn't see myself buying one unless they offer them with a shorter stock.

14 1/8”?!! I wonder why so long? It’s ridiculous that so many manufacturers of “tactical” shotguns put such long stocks on them. I put “youth” stocks on all my shotguns to reduce LOP to 13” or cut down the wood ones to 13”.

All kinds of fancy sights, enlarged loading ports and every other geegaw you can think of but they all come with LOP stocks generally considered to be too long for “tactical” use.

It's because they can just use the sporting length stocks that they're already producing in high volumes.

I'm sure they'll offer a Supernova 3 at some point that utilize shorter stocks.

I like the updates very much. Not sure I'll update my Nova tac though at this point.
I'm happy with it. As stated above the LOP is the only problem, will wait for supernova 3

That doesn’t make a lot of sense when you consider all the mods they make to appease the tactical and 3 gun crowd. Due to unique construction of the Nova it pretty much guarantees they’ll be missing out in a lot of potential customers. They should take a cue from Mossberg by making LOP adjustable.

Which would significantly increase the cost on what's supposed to be their budget line, for a feature that few sporting shooters would use.

That’s doubtful. They offer the Nova Compact 20ga with 13” LOP for the same price as a baseline Nova. Regardless, I think they’re losing out. I’d consider buying one myself except for the LOP.

Well, the standard Nova line has been on the market for at least 25 years now, long enough for tooling to have been paid for and significantly different variants to have been introduced.

Hopefully it won't be a long wait for a shorter stock to become available in 12 gauge.

Fixed 14 1/8” LOP and not tapped for chokes are the deal-killers for me, as they always have been on the short Novas.
IIRC the Nova has a chrome-lined bore and a pretty thin-walled barrel so that makes tapping for chokes prohibitive.

I will never understand why major shotgun manufacturers don't tap for chokes standard on all shotgun barrels.
Unless it's a dedicated slug gun (and even then chokes can offer some accuracy benefits) a shotgun is synonymous with chokes. Much of the functionality and flexibility come from the ability to swap out chokes.

Dirt cheap Chinese and Turkish shotguns have no problem offering even the shortest, cheapest tactical barrels tapped for chokes so WTF is stopping Remington, Mossberg, Benelli from doing so other than saving pennies on production cost?
