Hey Guys;

So, I have owned a 12 gauge Benelli Nova, synthetic 26 inch, for about 3 years now... NO PROBLEMS, till this morning... Let me set the scene for you...

Yesterday we went duck hunting, had a hoot... It rained on us, so upon returning home, I took the shotgun apart. I removed the barrel nut/cap, took off the barrel, removed the trigger group pins (2) and removed the trigger group. I then took out the bolt and took off the pump and "rails"... All of these were laid out nicely on the table to dry...

This morning, I reassemble the shotgun and just to check it, I "shuck" the pump rearward and it LOCKS in this position!!!!

At this point, even my wife knows something is wrong... Anyhow, I tried undoing the barrel nut/cap and taking off the barrel, NO GO... So, I frustratingly look inside the open action and notice that one of the shell stops has "jumped" over to the other side, and is now laying about 1/16 of an inch on the opposite side of the piece of plastic it normally butts up against...

So, I gingerly/carefully lift it back to where it should be an BINGO, problem solved...

NOW, the reason I bring this up is that I have NO IDEA how the hell this happened. The gun worked fine while hunting and it would have taken a little effort to get the shell stop to move from where it was supposed to be... Anyhow... Anyone else have this happen? I just hope it was a fluke and not that something is going wrong with my gun...

Cheers

Generally speaking, most guns are machined and designed to very close tolerances.

I have had similar little glitches with my Rem 870 and Beretta 390....
When you put them back together again after cleaning, make sure to do so very carefully, as for example even a slight off angle can cause something to fit incorrectly.

I don't strip my 870 after duck hunting. My gun safe is heated and it dries out without any rust or probs.

In fact I've owned my present 870 for 7-8 years and I don't think I've ever cleaned it

SuperCub, How do you "heat" your cabinet?? Not that I intend to stop cleaning "my" guns...

40 watt lightbulb. Keeps down humidity in the summer as well

I just put plenty of silica gel bags (the small ones) iin the gunsafe. Does the job fine.

That pretty much sums up what I was going to answer. I always do a check after re-assembling.

. . . plastic? . . .

He meant "high quality Italian-made polymer synthetic part"

I know which part he means. If you're not careful you can mis-align it.

But THAT has never happed with my Nova
