I've noticed a particular bad habit my new Nova has, if you short shuck it, the action jams solid on it, sometimes requiring one to drop the trigger assembly to free it. It was suggested I send back to Benelli for a warranty repair, should I or is this simply operator error?

See if the shell crimp is damaged as my Nova had an issue of jamming the end of the shell into the barrel. Blue federal shells were the worst as the crimp is deeper. A member on here told me to check to see if the area where the extractor rides over the barrel is sharp. This happens as the extractor rides over that spot and it becomes sharp and the shell will jam there. A few minutes with a file fixed the issue.

Just file it at right angles to the axis of the barrel to get rid of the sharp edge...feel it with your finger in the barrel ...is yours sharp there as well ?

That is the issue then I believe....just use a round file and file it to remove the sharp edge. The member on here that told me how to fix it does this to his every nova and m4 every 1000 rounds or so I believe.I found winchester silver box shells worked alot better in mine than federals due to the deeper crimp on the federals.

The gun has seen nothing but Challenger 1oz target loads. This is my second Nova, the first one I foolishly sold off one ever jammed once on me in the 5000 rounds or so I put through it, this one did it right out of the box. First, I thought it was a defect in the gun, the second time it did it, I realized both ends of the shell were marked which I then reliazed I must be short shucking it occasionally then it hits the end of the chamber pushing the action bars under the breach bolt which jams the action up solid. I then pulled the action pins, the bars drop back in place and the gun works like nothing happened. I took the burr off of it, re-assmebled the gun and ran a dozen or so shells through the action as fast as I could without a hiccup by holding the action release down. No marks on any of the shells. I'll give it a shot next monday after I have it to the skeet field and I'll report back.

It would seem to me that the gun has an issue if there is enough play to allow the action bars to come unhooked and slide under the bolt . tolerances should be tighter than that . just my opinion .

Update. I ran 2 rounds through her last night, 1 round of 16 yard trap singles first followed by 1 round of Skeet. On the skeet field I intentionally loaded 2 rounds each so I could cycle the action. Chalkriver, credit where it is due, I had my doubts this would fix it, but it would have appeared to have done so, not a hiccup last night. Thank You.

I have 2 super novas. Same issue. Especially when your mixing shells. Biggest help? Don't short shuck your rifle, ever. Practice at the range with really hard and fast pumps, but all the way back, all the way forward. Once you get used to it, you'll not have the issue.
