I have been wanting to get another shotgun lately for skeet and hunting. Been looking at the Novas and Wingmasters. Any opinions on the Nova. I have had an 870 express and currently have a Maverick 88. I love semis and over unders but I like pumps for their reliability and can't afford a nice over under. Any input is appreciated

TIA

Adam

I have these shotguns. My Nova Tactical is sweet...but Nova add ons and barrels are $$$$! The Wingmaster is just a spruced up 870. Parts and add ons are reasonably priced. If your a south paw...look at the Brownings or Mossbergs. I like the tang safety. What is your budget?

Not to hijack the thread from Adam, but our situations are very similar. I have an 870 right now and am looking at a Nova. My budget is between $500-$600 and I know you can get the Nova's for less than that on the EE. The only concern I have is that 'rattle' that I have read about.

I was at the trap range on sunday and let me say that the sound the nova next to me made was horrific! It sounded like the badly dubbed sound effect of Clint Eastwood's spurs in a spaghetti western. "Cla-ching" bang "Cla-ching" that being said they seem to shoot well judging by his score.

Never thought about it, but it does rattle a little bit. Then again I've never hunting with it, so the small noise isn't a concern. Very light gun so you'll need the recoil reducer for slugs. Put maybe 3,000 rounds into it. Never a problem...its a tank!

I'll only be hunting geese with it and doing a fair bit of trap shooting. Is the recoil a big concern? I have a friend who has one and the recoil is almost non-existant but he does have the recoil pad on it.

I own both 870 and the nova. I don't find the nova has anymore or less "rattle" than the 870. If you are doing high volume shooting and/or using heavy loads you should consider spending the extra $$$ and get the supernova, it comes with the recoil reduction system and makes a HUGE difference. Of course if you find a good deal on a regular nova on EE you can purchase the recoil reduction system separately. I have benelli auto loaders and still love shooting my nova. I find it to be a more refined gun than the 870 (which gets kept for sentimental value).
