Does anyone know the differences?

I heard the II has an upgraded feed tube (whatever that is), upgraded trigger guard, cryo treated barrel, and of course the comfortech stock on synthetic models.

I'm tossing up between Walnut guns so the stock isn't and issue, but I was wondering if anyone has tried both and noticed anything different.

I know price is a huge difference, the old SBE is quite a bit cheaper.
 
You will have to buy the SBE I used as they stoped making it when they came out with the SBE II. You pretty much got it right with the differences you described. They are both good guns and known to be amongst the best on today's market.
 
I ended up buying the SBE, not the II. It was old stock, but brand new so the price was pretty good! It's for my Dad and he's a walnut stock guy, so the comfortech part didn't matter.

I bought a sbe as well and use a kicks ported choke tube and put a limbsaver recoil pad on it both sell at basspro shops and mine has less recoil than my buddys sbeII at 500$ less.
 
For you guys buying SBE they are great guns and you will get a lifetime of use from them. However, make sure to regularly clean the inertia spring/housing. One of the most important upgrades from the SBE to SBEII is the chroming of the inertia drive system/tube similar to a Sure Cycle. The SBEII is chrome lined which requires very little maintenance (annual cleaning in dusty or wet environments) compared with the old SBE which was not chromed and required regular maintenance. Otherwise over time the inertia spring and housing with become so dirty/rusted it will no longer cycle properly.
 
That must've been the upgraded tube I couldn't figure out. Is it worth upgrading or is it even interchangable? How do you get at it to clean it, remove the butpad?
I'm sure with a bit of maintenance the old one should be ok.

Yes, via removal of the recoil pad. Should be fine if you keep that sprayed with CLP during hunting season.

After season, clean again and apply teflon based lubricant (example - Birchwood Casey) prior to storage.....it doesn't drip and remains as "dry."
 
Just picked up the SBE. To be honest, I was pretty disappointed. It was totally different than a SBE II. Didn't have the right feel either. Anyways L H rod and gun was very understanding and is giving me a refund.....now I have to search again for a 26" SBE II walnut.
