Hey guys-question for you all... I can't seem to hone-in on a 12ga semi I really like, save for the 11-48 I inherited from my grandfather. Took my first 2 grouse with it too, my first and only double! Heavy gun, not my grouse gun these days...but when I think of adding a modern/sporting semi to the quiver, I draw a blank on what might suit me best.

I do see these come up for sale from time to time, almost bought one (synthetic furniture) sight unseen, but reluctant to buy a $1,000+ shotgun having never even held the model to check fit/weight etc.

Do any of you guys have/use one of these and if so, what are your impressions? As time goes by, I'm more mindful of carry weight than ever before..so that's one question about these Super 90s. I've held slender, Italian autoloaders in gun shops and they can feel like really refined things. Compared to an 11-48 especially. lol

Open to suggestions on alternatives, but specifically interested in opinions on this Benelli.

thanks!

There's no need to be focused specifically on M1 other than sentimental or price reasons. M2 with a comfortech stock (pre-2023) for better recoil management is a better evolution: excellent balance, shootability and reliability. If M2 pricing is a concern, take a look at Breda (pre- Beretta owner of Benelli) and their B12i: more features at much lower price. Then, there are a dozen of Turkish clones that work or don't, depending on who you ask.

I have that Benelli you are considering and another 6 more, earlier and latter variants. My snobby friends at the Hamilton Gun Club don’t like them (Krieghoff Krowd)lol but I LOVE them!! They are one tough shotgun!! I have burned out several Remington 48’s, 1100’s and 11-87’s shooting live game from here to Argentina.
In Argentina Beretta 391 all exhibited cracked receivers by year two. Remington 1100’s last 2 weeks, IF you’re lucky. Benellis grind 1,000-2000 rounds per day, 3 days a week!!
And they keep on going, 7 key parts on them so overbuilt, well designed that they just keep on going and going. And because at the time Argentinian outfitters could only buy 5 shotguns per year they all started to buy the Benelli Super Sporter in 20g….Maybe the Benellis don’t have the refined triggers of all the wonderful over and unders out there but they function under adverse conditions. It’s the finest semi-auto shotgun out there since the Original Winchester Super X-1 was discontinued. Trust me…. I have all those other fancy expensive shotguns too, but they only come out on sunny days and don’t get used and abused……
If anyone on this thread shoots at the HGC and disagrees with my opinion then I say ‘NO SOUP FOR YOU’ and I won’t buy you a coffee until you apologize and repent.
Cheers…. Bill

I had m1 in black. Very reliable and easy to aim gun. Never let me down but it’s cheap made. Recoil is pretty heavy but what can you expect from a $1000 gun? I just trade it in for a new Franchi Affinity 3.5 and I love it.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. Feeling the pull towards this gun tbh, going to look for a dealer that might have one on the rack.
