I am attempting to replace the recoil spring with a new one. I have instructions from customer service at Benelli. Following instructions, I removed the recoil pad exposing a 13mm nut. When I attempted to unscrew the nut the recoil tube unscrewed from the stock and the nut, visible in the butt stock, did not unscrew. So now I have the butt removed from the receiver and the recoil tube assembly still assembled in the butt. I cannot get the nut to unscrew as the tube assembly just turns in it's place in the butt.

Well, I did manage to get the recoil spring tube removed from the butt. This is one of the early ones (2002) which has the 17mm nut put on at the factory with loctite. I have tried heat. I am fearful of getting the vice too tight and collapsing the tube. Any ideas? I have it soaking in acetone and transmission fluid right now.
 
Did you try a padded vice and significant heat on the nut? A quick tap on the wrench sometimes works better than a steady pull. I did my buddy's newer SBEII last year without issue but it had no locktite.
 
heat nut directly, clamp in non -maring vice jaws ( or pad with a leather belt) maintaining heat, put on wrench and take up any slack. Quickly remove heat and like above, give wrench a firm sharp blow. It will move no problem similar to the last time I did it on mine.
 
Thanks guys. I tried those remedies with no luck so I finally had to go to a non-padded vice. Heated and much more torque than I ever expected to use and it came free. The loctite was "red" so that explains the problem. Did Benelli think that would never need to be cleaned or the spring replaced? So, it is completed and back together. Interesting that the new spring was at least six inches longer and had many more coils. Benelli must have made improvements and.....after 2004, they did not use loctite!
