I want to get a pump action shotty with a short barrel (14")...... I'm a Benelli guy but i'm thinking if the extra money for the super nova is worth it compared the 870? anyone here have experience with both/either?

Benelli makes a nicer gun than any recent Remington, and obtaining a 14" barrel for the 870 will eat up most, if not all, of the price gap between the two unless you were to buy used or get a new no-frills Express model.

Spare parts availability, accessories and customization options are at lot easier to come by with the 870 though, if that's a big deal to you.

Considering the Benelli Supernova already has the 14" barrel, a collapsible stock, top rail and ghost sights, It's well worth the price difference. The only reason to not get one is if you don't like its "sci-fi" look.

Reasons to go Benelli supernova 14" Tactical

-Chrome barrel "means no rust and no hard extractions"
-Ghost ring fully adj. sights
-Shell latch stays up when loading
-3.5" chamber
-full length handguard
-magazine cut-off buttom
-telescopic stock
-sight rail
-100% reliable
-smooth operating
-rugged

The only bad points are;

-good sling mounts are tricky to find
-mounting a flash light is a pain

I just bought the same one recently. Best prices I could find was Flahertys or Al Simmons. Bought mine at Simmons because it is close to home.
I love it. Tele-stock is great, ghost ring sights are nice, but rear didn't have enough elevation adj (so I lifted the front).
I like the 14" bbl but it is God awful loud! (use ear pro). Bought it for range-toy, deer slugging, and close-up birds.
I get a LOT of looks and positive comments, although I didn't buy it for that. I knew I was getting a quality product. Very accurate for a shorty, cycles well, swings nicely. My son has a Remington 887 and the Benelli is WAY above this.
Feels pretty bad-ass in the hands, too! You'll love it.

Well lets see...say you buy an 870 express 18" for $350, pay $300 for a 14" barrel, add an oversize safety $15, ghost ring sights $100+, pic rail $20+installation, collapsible stock $100+ youve spent a hell of alot more than the Benelli costs and have a crappy, rough action with piss poor extraction and ejection, a crappy rust encouraging finish all in a fat, heavy package that holds alot less value then you spent on it. Or drop $700 on the Benelli and get everything Dsiwy posted plus an oversize safety, huge loading gate, smooth chromed chamber with a rotating bolt head that will never have even sticky ejection let alone having to mortar the buttstock into the ground to get a fired hull out. Far better finish on steel parts, slick smooth action that can handle short 2 3/4" shells thru heavy payload 3.5" without a hiccup, typical Benelli craftsmanship that you just cant get for the same money on an American gun etc etc. Whats to ponder? You want a Benelli

im currently looking for a benelli nova or super nova for 3 gun, not quite the same requirements but its the almost universal choice in the states for people shooting 3 gun

I've owned both and the only reason I sold the Benelli is because I wasn't a fan of the "Batman" look. After that I bought an 870 tactical which I enjoy very much, but mechanically I found the Benelli to be so much nicer! It never had a single extraction or feeding issue and was smooth as butter. But there's just something about my old school 870 tactical that is near and dear to my heart!

FWIW, in the States, the choice for 3 gun is the Benelli M2 semi-auto, not the pump....
