hi folks. i am considering purchasing a benelli supernova tactical 14" bbl with the collapsible pistol grip stock. looks like a great gun. i have read, researched and asked everyone one i know , to no avail hence i am asking here. i want to be able to use it with just the stock pistol grip. i know the butt stock is removable, leaving the adjusting rod exposed. my question is: does this rod come off easily, without a hassle or fuss, just leaving the pistol grip? or is it a big ordeal involving replacement receiver rods, etc? i like the factory pistol grip and want to use it. if it is a big deal i go with plan B. trusty 870 tactical with a very easily installed pistol grip. any info would be appreciated. thanks, Zoot.

I'm not sure if the attached photo is helpful. I do have that shotgun but I don't want to take it apart.
I can look at it tomorrow but if you've already looked at one, maybe there isn't any value in that. Let me know as I could take a photo if desired.
Actually, looking at this, the post is integral to the mounting of the pistol grip. The only real way to do it would involve a replacement of that threaded portion so the pistol grip could attach. Or, am I missing something?

hey guys. thank you for the reply. nestor, you are right. nothing like the tried and true 870. have had a few of them. very versatile and adaptable. i really like the looks of the benelli and hear great things about them. i know about the lack of accessories, etc, and am ok with that. i like the gun as is, just wanted the option of a plain pistol grip for a more manageable package for hiking, etc. which is why i always went with a defender or 870. keltec fan, thanks for the great schematic. i guess that pretty much explains it. i found a few diagrams, but not that detailed. they only showed the butt stock removed leaving the rod exposed. it does look do-able, but you are right, it looks like you would have to buy a mounting screw, etc to retain the pistol grip. i'm sure i am not the only one who thought of this, so someone must make one. again, you are right, not sure if i want to tear apart a great gun and modify it. mmmm, of course once it was done you would still have all the stock parts to return it to original. just a bit more hassle than slipping on a new grip, like the defender or 870. i guess i will look into the availability of a shorter mounting bolt and go from there. if too much hassle and expense, there's always plan b, quick and easy. thanks a lot guys. zoot.

No worries. Benelli's quality is impressive, but at the end of the day...it's still just a pump shotgun. Depends on your budget I guess.

So true. I was really torn between it and the 870 tactical with Magpul furniture. They were the same price. I still look at the 870 and think I might need one.

that would be a tough decision. i have never tried a benelli and i am leaning that way. i like to think i need it. i have found that, and i think it applies to many of us, it's easier to talk myself into thinking i need it, than out of it. take care guys.
