Benelli Vinci rust?

A good buddy loaned me his new Benelli Vinci to try out as he doesn't hunt ducks.

I took it out yesterday morning to the shore here in B.C. in a bit of rain and wind, kept the gun dry as possible, but got a bit of water on me and perhaps the gun deploying decoys in the salt water and the barrel rib started to show spots of rust right away.

Is this normal? If you can't take a shotgun out to the field what is it good for?

Or is it asking too much to expect to use it near salt water?
 
If it had a light coat of oil, it likely wouldn't have happened. However, sounds like no harm done. A quick wipe with G96 should remove the surface spotting. In the worst case scenario, a light rub with 0000 steel wool and oil will clean off the spotting.
 
MD, when I had a 10 gauge BPS it would start to rust the moment it knew it was going to the salt marsh off of Steveston.
Seriously, they do not like the salt air, even though it s good for you and me (the salt air that is).
I would lather it up with some gun oil before going out into the marsh and as soon as I came home it would get cleaned asap and a good lathering of gun oil right before going into the gun locker.
Yes. special attention was paid to the rib and under the rib as well.
No idea why they reuire such special care when the ole Remingtons and that Auto 5 you have could care less about a little bit of salt air.

Yeah, I have an 870 Express that gets the full lube job before and after I head to Ladner or B-Bay. Treated that way it doesn't seem to have "Goes orange fast" problem other Express model have. The Browning gets oiled liberally too just to keep it honest, but as I say, I was a bit shocked with the Vinci. You'd think an expensive gun like that would have a good finish on it.

There's other things I don't like about too. I think I'll be returning it to its rightful owner soon. Don't want to scratch it up and ruin his resale value anyway.
