Thanks alll - D&L had the piston ... as it turns out .. I disassembled the piston once more and managed to get the unit it working again with a very "light" film of synthetic grease. Hopefully I have deferred the repair indefinitely -- hope so as all that D&L could offer was the aluminum piston which (according to internet "experts") is less desirable than the current brass piston...
