I'm considering purchasing a Trail NP2 in .177 "1400 fps" advertised.
Seems the recommendation is always to use heavier pellets to avoid super-sonic velocities.
What pellet grain weights have been found to work best for plinking accuracy or hunting?
What would be the maximum grain weight to fire regularly?

I have a Crosman Fire, similar sort of thing. I have found H&N Baracuda and JSB Exact Heavy to be reasonable, also have a tin of JSB Monster but not tried them yet. Usually best to stay above 10 gr or so with high velocities.

The 1400fps is with alloy pellets, if you have a chrony start buying different weights of pellets and aim for 900fps and see what shoots accurately at your preferred hunting distance. You can ask what everyone else uses but you’ll be stuck trying pellets out yourself as every pellet gun has different preferences, even those made side by side.
