So i think i found the issue with my bad extraction issues.

The rod connected to the gas cup "an op-rod?" and the gas cup are bent. Its causing it to bind and not get the full force of the gas to the bolt to cycle.

Does anybody know where I might find replacement parts? This is a shooter so I don't care if it's reproduction.

Id spin it in a drill holding a permanent mark to it find the high spot and gently tap it back, you can get it pretty straight this method or mount it in a fixed chuck and put a dial indicator to it.

The gas cup is bent at the rod receiving end too. Ill give that a try first. Id prefer free to cheap. the cup might warp if i try and bend it but i think i found a cup and piston set online tho if all else fails. Im sure i can get a stanless steel rod built at my local fabricator too if i have to.

So let my experience be a warning to others.

If you go to a gunshow with the express purpose of buying an SVT (or any rifle for that matter), do the following before you walk out with your rifle.

1. bring a bore light and for the love of god look at the top of the chamber from the magwell. I had well hidden corrosion at the top that i could not see without a light.
2. inspect the gas system. if the piston and cup are gritty or if the rods hang up when you push at the piston area, walk away this svt wont cycle properly. good luck finding parts after the fact.
3. bring 5 rounds and check the mag for capacity, you could have a prohibited mag, or in my case a 4 round mag.

If the seller wont break it down for you, walk on to the next table my friends.

On the bright side, there is about to be some fresh svt40 parts available in the equipment exchange here shortly.
