Hey every one.

Well I recently bought my first K31 rifle and I am getting really excited.
Wile the gun arrives I am narrowing down what I can do to reload the brass.

I plan to buy a crate from TSE and reload it......I am curious is there a steady supply of berdan primers in Canada?
Or does any one have secret stashes of this stuff?
Would you buy as much as you can if you run across some?

The Gp11 brass is berdan of course, and can be reloaded quite well if you can pick out the old berdan when reloading. OR can be converted to boxer.
If any one is curious here it is.

Seems like a lot of work, but makes sense for any one buying the crate of ammo .....since you can fire it right away and then reload. Not to mention the GP11 is super accurate, reading information on sub moa shots all day with a scope.

Has any one reloaded this stuff with berdans? If so how was your experience and what type of loads did you use and groupings you got?
Same question for converting to boxer primed.

I was told the lee auto primer will happily push the berdan to the cases as its only a couple thousandths bigger - Ya'll agree?

I plan for a 2 die set from lee or RCBS. And a simple single stage press.
Any one have load data for me with power and bullet grain and style?

I have family in Switzerland ( yea lol )
Could I bug them to locate some berdan and send it over. What is the rules for that sort of stuff?

Contacted a couple guys in here relating to the K31, I appreciate every ones help and answers........Love the K31 and its design, Hope I can do some sub moa down the road.

Take care

Berden primers are expensive from what I hear, so is the reloading equipment. Most tell me its not worth it. But I don't know much about the K31 and how rare ammo is.

Stick thanks for the information, They do indeed carry it.....maybe I will touch basis with you in PM

thanks for the reply leeenfield. They are indeed more $ then the boxer, But converting the GP11 to boxer is a ton of work, Well more work then poping in a berdan.
Seems to be a viable route when buying my first crate from TSE

Thanks

I'd like to see (mostly :p) idiot-proof instructions re: 7.62x51 surplus Berdan-Boxer changes, if such information exists...:)

Finding supplies to reload Berdan or converting the brass to Boxer primers seems like a lot of work and $$$ when there's Boxer brass readily available. I've seen both Graf and Prvi at shows and online.
If you do feel like doing a bit of work for brass, reform some .284 Winchester. It works too.
Just my $.02

What am I doing wrong guys?
TSE offers rounds for the K31 ( GP 11 ) at 65 cents a round delivered to my house.

Either I buy berdan at 9.5 cents a primer delivered or convert to boxer primer ( not hard just ime consuming ) and custs it down to 4.5 cents a primer.
IMR 4350 4054 4832 or Alliant Reloader 15 is all 30$ a lb + shipping closer to 40 a lb.
30 cal FMJ plinking or match grade bullets are 30-40-50 cents a round.

Together with my press purchase and dies. it costs more to reload the surplus brass then it costs to buy it from TSE and shoot......What am I missing here?

Where does every get their free FMJ and free powder? LOL
Thanks

If you could guarantee the supply of 7.5 Swiss, then I'd say don't bother reloading. However, this supply is due to dry up and then you're stuck. Plus, if you ever wanted to hunt with your K31, you'll need something other than FMJ.
So your choices are: buy it cheap and stack it deep, or get a reloading kit and be prepared.

There are lots and lots of different sizes of Berdan primers. Most are not the same size as Boxer large rife primers. :(

A few 7.62x51 berdan cases I measured has a berdan primer larger than a LR boxer.

with berdan primed brass, the question is not: how to pop in a new primer...

The real question is how to pop out the spent primer !!!

In europe, they sell a tool which uses water pressure to remove the old Berdan primer... never saw it here in north America...

Buy 100 unfired Boxer brass from Tradex for $64 plus an RCBS reloading die for $45 and you are all set...

Thanks for the reply guys.
I was told stack it deep by many before........2 crates delivered is 630$ ( cry )

My issue is not the brass, its the expensive IMR powder and expensive FMJ 30 cal rounds.
Nothing local so shipping hurts me really bad. Not to mention inflation price of both items.

I can convert to boxer if I wanted or needed to.

How about reloadable brass cases to use BOXER primers? Can offer you as much as you want (well almost)

As for 30cal FMJ's, the Hornady 150gr FMJBT's I am offering are likely one of the best priced in Canada and I am in your province. Where abouts are you?

Can also offer a whole bunch of accessories, sights, rails, etc.

Send me a PM if interested. I am not supposed to be putting pricing, etc on a general post.

Jerry
