Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon V

Hey everyone!

I'm looking at getting some input on a 687 Silver Pigeon V. Can anyone comment on their experience (current or past) of shooting or owning one? I'm doing primarily clay pigeon shooting and this would be my first high dollar o/u. Any input would be appreciated!

Great guns. The factory stock doesn't fit me too well, but most of my friends in the UK shoot them, and love them with an iridescent purple passion. You can't go too far wrong with this one.

Have you tried the other B-gun yet?

Well, I do not own that gun specifically, but I do have a 686 SP - which to my understanding, is mechanically identical. From what I've read, the differences between the 686/687 are merely cosmetic. I've owned 3 of these and they have been nothing short of stellar! I prefer the 20 ga. versions from a handling perspective, but they all have been a pleasure to own and shoot.

I have nothing but gret things to say about the Beretta 686/686 O/U's. Love em'!

If they fit you, you can't go wrong!

The Beretta 68x series guns are all on the same basic action. It is proven, durable and parts are easy to find should they be required.

The 687 Silver Pigeon V is just a more nicely finished and fancier version of the basic 687. It is however more of a hunting gun and although certainly capable of clay target shooting they often come with automatic safeties (safety goes on when the gun opens.) Auto safeties aren't a necessarily a bad thing in the field but are a serious pain in the ass when shooting clays.

What you pay more for in a higher grade Beretta 687 is cosmetic. You can save money with a less fancy 687/686 Sporting and have the same basic shotgun.
 
All I've got to say is don't order one in left-handed. As I am sinastrally superior I ordered my 686 Sporting 'cast-on' back in mid-March. Still waiting for it. It had to be sent back to Italy to have the buttstock swapped out. I can't blame the dealer, but I am a little pi$$ed about not having it for the summer trap league and possibly the opening hunting seasons. It's been six months, and counting.

Not really a review, sorry. Just venting, I guess!

I've heard of this retarded policy more than a few times, I hear that guys in the States send their guns to Coles Gunsmithing instead of suffering thru that malarky of back to Italy.

The hoops we southpaws have to jump thru sometimes.....
When I bought my LH Sporter(Caesar Geurini) I contacted the distributor and made sure there was one in Canada before ordering thru the dealer.
 
I've got an ultralight 686 and a 687 SP II, both custom fitted to me for left hand and less drop than usual (cost me 150$ each, so dont go sending it to Italy!). All i can say is this: Buy it, fit it, shoot it, love it forever.

12ga/28”, field version (I don’t think they made a sport version?)
It has been great, don’t like to shoot it too much, it’s my nicest 12ga. I currently own.
I’d like to find an EELL one day, but still searching.
The 687V’s are basically exactly the same as a 686 field version Gun, just more jewelry, engraving and better wood.
Either way you can’t go wrong with any 680 series shotguns, I have never dealt with a malfunction to date.

I’ve got a 686SP , Citoris and a Win 101. The 686 fits me like it was custom made, the others are good but just don’t match the fit

Hello ADRBOS, I see you are new to CGN, welcome to the forums.

Please, when responding to threads you may have found through searches or links learn to look first at the dates and what subforum the thread is in before replying. I really don't feel that what you have contributed here will be that helpful to the original poster (OP), since by now he has either owned the gun for several years or has long missed his opportunity to buy it.
