I just bought a Beretta 71 .22 pistol on the EE.

Does anyone have one? I can't find much information on it.

It is a later model with the 1911 like safety.

I assume that it is a single action?

Can it be safely carried cocked and locked (I have a Canadian ATC plus a Utah CCW licence)?

Can it take high velocity ammo or just standard velocity? Is it finicky on ammo?

I read that it can fire .22 shorts but I assume that means loaded single shot. Is this true?

What kind of accuracy can I expect with decent ammo at say 7 and 15 yards?

It only has one magazine. I read that these are hard to come by. Does anyone know of a Canadian supplier for magazines and other parts?

Any info or experience with a 71 would be appreciated.

Did you buy that one from Janka? Pretty sweet deal! I had one in .32acp and it was 100% reliable and fairly accurate.
Single action.
Mine was all steel so I think any ammo will do.

Yup. I'm on a job in Colombia and saw the 71 come up for sale and after cursing my bad luck for being out of the country I PM'd Janka and the deal went through. :dancingbanana:

Thanks Janka!

I've always wanted one since watching that mini-series about the Israeli squad that went out to even the score from the Munich Olympic attack.

pproulx: The .22 71 would be an alloy frame, wouldn't it?

Israeli instructor: "Always two shots: foom foom!".

Cool, I bought the one with the 6" barrel from magneto. I plan to chop the barrel down to 106mm. I did some searching and found they were called the Jaguar Plinker, came in a few variations. On rimfirecentral Triple K magazines were mentioned. They don't work as well as the factory mags but factory mags are impossible to find.

Beretta Model 71

I have had a Beretta Model 71 for many years. It is under the "keeper" category in my handgun battery. Super accurate, not fussy on ammo. Will shoot the hi-vel CCI "Stingers" just fine. Mine has the standard 8 shot mag but I also have a 10 shot mag with finger rest. It's just an all round fabulous .22lr pistol. Never tried .22 shorts in it, single shot, but I see no reason why they wouldn't work that way.

BTW, that one that was in the EE for $175 + shipping was a steal.

I almost thought about grabbing it myself but I have other irons in the fire at the moment. [Colt irons...lol...]

The sign of a true gunnut. Buying another gun that you already have one of. :)

I tried to get my gunsmith to sell me his CZ550 in 416 Rigby because he had two 416 Rigby's. Geez what gunnut needs two 416 Rigby's????
