I need some opinions, I have a stainless Ruger Mark III 5.5inch Bull barrel and I am getting bored.

What should I get? I have fired a Beretta 87T before and liked it. Is there anything else i should consider?

Thanks.

Why are you bored? We need to know this first. What size groups do you get? Do this. Place a target 25yds away, fire 10 shots at it, measure your 10 shot group, this is the distance between the 2 holes which are farthest apart.(you may have to use a fresh newspaper backing to capture all the shots if you are "off paper") Record this group size, do this with 10 more targets for a total of 11 targets, this will give you 11 group sizes. Of the eleven measurements, disgard the 5 smallest, disgard the 5 largest. This leaves you with a middle measurement. Tell us what this measurement is.
example. if your results were ....

5.5, 10, 9, 8.3, 5.5, 8, 6, 11.6, 7, 7.9, 10

your answer would be 8

report back with your result and I'll tell you the next step and what gun to buy, but first we have to know why you are bored.

JEK, I have a Beretta 87T and a Ruger MkII slabside. Both are nice pistols. Personally, I don't think you'd gain anything by buying the Beretta. It is expensive and, for me, it doesn't shoot any better than my Ruger MkII. For the price of a 87T you can buy a decent centrefire pistol. You didn't say why you were getting bored with your MkIII. Are you shooting at the same distance all the time? How about shotgun hulls at 25 yds or even 50 yds? If you are looking to shoot 'something different' in .22lr, then I'd suggest a S&W 617 revolver otherwise put your money towards a centrefire pistol....just my .02 cents.

if you want abother .22 sure go for it; Beretta looks more like a real gun so that may help...

but I will suggest another Beretta -- 92FS in 9mm; I think you may need something bigger than .22...

Misfire- do you want to sell your 87T?

I have many centerfire pistols. I have 2 chromed STI edges that get used in IPSC. I also have several revolvers. I am just saying i was possibly getting "the itch" to get a 87T. I would sell my Ruger if i got one.

You might go a little further with one of these.
Great fun in Bulleye, ISSF Standard Pistol, or ISSF Rapidfire. One handed timed fire and rapidfire is always challenging.

JEK, I'm sorry I don't want to sell it. It is a nice pistol that is on my 'keeper' list. I apologize for my advice/comments as they aren't warranted seeing that you own other rimfire and centrefire pistols.

I second the suggestion to try a nice revolver or an ISSF pistol. I have both a Ruger bull barrel and a Beretta 89 (older version of the 87). I also have a newer S&W Model 17 revolver, that is identical to the 617's except blued, not stainless.

The revolver is a lot of fun to shoot, especially if you are looking for something a little different.

I like the feel of the High Standard. I have a Citation model. Nice ballance, very good triggers. The Victor is a little nicer if you can find one. But if you are bored then pick up a good .357 K or L frame S&W revolver. You can load it light or hot.
