Girsan just arrived and I was playing around with it. I've got dozens of Beretta mags but they don't want to drop free from the Girsan. Now I think I recall seeing something about this... Is there an easy fix here?

Actuslly the Beretta mags with the big groove down the middle of them seem to drop free. It's the Promags that look virtually identical to the Girsan mags that get stuck.

Just tested in my Girsan 16 Railed Full Size, Beretta & Mec-Gar eject no problem.

Pro-Mag brand ones I have to manually remove by tugging on the base plate.

Beretta and Mec-Gar magazines both lock slide back on last round.

The 3 Pro-Mag ones I have fail to do this and the followers when I first got them would over protrude and lock up the pistol completely, reversing the spring inside the magazine body fixed that but they still did not lock back the slide then as the slide stop sits just right beside the stop.

The Mec-Gar has the best engagement with the slide release, the Beretta coming second and Pro-Mag they just graze the side of them.

NOW the really interesting thing I have figured out.........

I took the follower, spring and spring base from the Mec-Gar magazine and installed it in the Pro-Mag magazine body and got perfect AMAZING ejection and lock back, better than the Mec-Gar's!!!!

So now we know that the spring and follower in the Pro-Mag 92 Magazines are poopie and the Mec-Gar spring and follower are awesome and the Pro-Mag bodies have the most clearance.

To keep everything interesting and fair, I also put the Beretta follower and spring into the Pro-Mag body and got equal results to the Mec-Gar follower and spring in the Pro-Mag body.

The Pro-Mag follower fits the Beretta magazine body but the spring is too wide and binds up part way into insertion, so not functional.

The Pro-Pag follower and spring in the Mec-Gar body does not eject and locks up the pistol.

Forgot to add, the Pro-Mag magazines will eject when fully charged on a closed slide.

Trying to stretch the spring on the Pro-Mag Magazine will sauce the magazine to lock up into the pistol with the slide stop notch now catch underneath where it would lay above.
So other than throwing .40cal Beretta 96 Magazines into the equation that aboot covers it buddy.

An they all fed dummy rounds no problem for my pistol in all part mix variations.

MODS feel free to put that in a Beretta/Girsan sticky.

Currently the Pro mags lock the pistol up, and have to be yarded out of the magazine well. The follower actually gets pulled out of the magazine body, they are so stuck.

But you are saying if I reverse the spring, this should not happen? I don't actually care if the slide gets locked back, I don't mind depressing the mag release button and pulling out the magazine, but I don't want to fight with them.

I have a couple of .40 magazines, so I can do the testing with that. Then we will have all the bases covered. :)

Yep flip the spring around and put it back in and see if it locks up the pistol or not.

Mine other than not locking the pistol open fire reliably after I turned the spring around.

I will say I don't remember exactly which way I put the spring in (upside down or just rotated 180 degrees) but it is not how it came and it works now.

I lost track while going through all the variations heh.

I swapped the springs in the pro mags end for end and now they operate as you described. Doesn't lock the action open or drop free, but they come out easily with fingers. This is fine for my purposes.

The two 40 cal mags I have worked perfectly.

Awesome sauce Gatehouse, good to know the Beretta 96 mags are all good with the Girsan.

I'd love to have the extra 3-4 rounds on tap when practicing my groupings.

Thank you for your helpful input as well partner. :)

Heyy, bumping your thread :) Since I have a bunch of original Beretta magz for my carbine {& One Pro-mag} Im thinking of getting a Girsan {Compact} maybe, but do you know if the grip is nicer then the Berettas? Ive handled a 92, it was an Old school one, & it seemed slightly Big feeling in my hand. I dont really have small hands or anything, just heard the Girsans with the Grooved/contoured grips, feel better then originals? Does a Compact have a smaller overall grip then the full size? Any feedback appreciated. Cheerz . ~

Cannot accurately say if there is a difference between the full size and compact grips, but the finger grooved Girsan feels great in the hand, only gripe is it gets a little slippery when my hands start to sweat.

The factory grip panels I find lack a bit of texture but I am also too used to ny Hogue and Pachmyr rubber wrap around grips.

For $500/600 Range, I think Im def. going to bite...soon! I like that Bright white/Chrome compact. There's one on the EE now....hmmm...thnx for reply! Cheerz!

I find the plastic grips that come stock on the Girsan are quite thin and make a big difference. My Beretta has aluminum grips and feels a bit bigger. I love the balance of the compact model too. Best gun for $500 and under on the used market.
