Title says it all. I am buying a Beretta and was wondering which one is better. I want it for tactical shooting so I need accuracy and reliability.

So let the comparison begin

p.s Thanks

my 92fs has only jammed while limp wristing or being fed blazer ammo(too long of bullet to feed). other then that it has been flawless for about 2000 rounds

The .40 is a nicer round for defense, but the 96D is double action only, which means longer and heavier trigger pull than the 92fs (which is double/single action).

Both allow for safe CCW and both are very reliable from what I've read. I have a 96D, and the only complaint I've ever heard is that the recoil spring is not heavy enough for the .40 s&w over long periods of time.

Beretta used the same recoil spring for both the 9mm and the 40 s&w, but some would argue that the Beretta 96 would benefit from a heavier recoil spring due to the heavier hitting round.

i will chime in on this, from what i understand, the 92 series was meant for the 9mm round, so it was built on that and designed for it too, and when beretta added the 40 cal to the 92 series they didnt do anything to really change the frame or slide (besides basic changes to allow the 40 to work) to add strength to the much more powerful round. and because of this the 96 models crack and are prone to malfunctions. after i heard this. and it wasnt just from one source, id go with the 92's ( in 9mm) just based on that.
also id be avoiding all 92's except for the "FS" model. just due to other problems that could arise from the previous models.

and vpd hate the 96d, too many problems with them, like fte, ftf, and frame/slide cracking,

id stick with a 92fs or m9, (same thing)

there is no need for that, if you wanted a post FS mode, just don't buy the S, SB or F models. There are a number of other 92's live Vertec, Brigadir, 90two that is as good or better a the 92FS

sorry i reread my post , your very right, i wasnt thinking . i was just thinking of the s ,sb and f models in my head, i wasnt thinking and forgot about the vertec brigs or the 90-two/ which are all just as good. but a completely diff league imho , i was just thinking of all the cons of the 96 series. which in my mind should have never been made, they just wanted to make money without having to redesign the model. however the 90-two has been designed to handle the 40 load.

My brother has a 96D - the double action trigger pull definately gets tiring during an IPSC style run and introduces some accuracy challenges to the novice shooter.
