I'm looking at tons of photos of the 92 fs and have a question about the frame shape.

I know the old 92fs frames had the straight dust cover and the new ones in the states are canted whereas the m9's are still straight. When looking at berettas here in Canada, it seems some are straight and some are canted. In addition, the pics off berettas international site show it as being straight.

Are the ones we get here mixed, straight, or canted?

The older 92 has the straight cover same as the m9 the newer 92fs has the canted one
That's what I thought as well, but looking at the EE here and here there are 92FSs with straight dustcovers, but I've also seen 92 FSs with tapered frames. Are there variants...maybe US made vs American made

you DO know you can buy slides, right?- i've got an old 92s with a canted dust cover- had stogers do a rebuild and that was one of the so-called "improvements"= it's also now got the slide safety( the 2 ended one) and a radiused locking block

I've had a bunch of 92s with slanted, straight, railed dustcovers... At first I was a little weary about the look of the slanted, but now I think I actually prefer it.

The slide isn't the question though, its the actual frame.

I'm still confused though. Is is possible to get the straight ones here new from the shop? I haven't had the chance to go to the store to see what they have so I was just wondering.

The straight dust covers havent been made on the 92fs since the early 2000s the only beretta that still has a straight dust cover are the m9s , what your seeing in the first photo is a default image of a m9 from berettas website and the other of someones actual gun that is a 92fs from the late 90s to early 2000s before they switched to the slanted dust cover.

Thanks--that makes a lot of sense! I'm kicking around the idea of picking up a Beretta 92 something or other and like the older-style look myself.

It bugged me in pics but I liked it a lot more in person, just a thought if you haven't seen both yet. Straight dustcover makes the gun look longer IMO.

Just got a 92A1. My very first pistol.
It's dripping with oil.
Should I clean it all out or is it meant to be used straight out of the box like this?

Is this stuff cosmoline or gun oil?

Cosmoline is a very thick, heavy, waxy grease. Was really only used in Military long term storage.

Its just a protective oil to prevent corrosion. I would clean and replace with something I know of as I don't know how well the thin oil would lube, Im sure it would be fine but I would clan it up and re-oil anyways.
