Went up to the range today with my brand new beretta 92fs 9mm!!!! all i had was hollow points, the damn thing would not even eject! I couldn't belive my eyes, i was going to go nuts, i had to cycle every empty shell casing out one by one my shooting partner was amazed!!!! WOW! then a guy showed up with the exact same gun and had the same problem months ago!, he gave me some FMJ and wow worked perfectly!!!! first time ever to shoot a beretta and i thought its was fu***d!!!!
unreal it wont take the hollow points! anyone have this same problem????

I can't speak to the 92 models, but I had a 96D that was fine with whatever I fed it in .40 S&W. Ball (165gn, 180gn), and all kinds of hollow points - Winchester, CCI/Speer, Federal, Remington... not a hiccup.

Maybe a lighter recoil spring would help? Or is the gun brand new and a bit stiff? Maybe dirty?

I haven't even shot the 96 SA/DA I'm trying to sell right now, but it poses an interesting question... I wonder if I should go out this weekend and put the remaining .40 ammo I have through it? :D

if it fires but doesn't eject, then it has nothing to do with it being hollow-point since by then the bullet is out of the barrel. could just be ammo with a soft / low charge, not enough power to cycle the action fully. or yeah, spring too heavy, gun dirty, etc. however, if it chambers and fires, the type of bullet tip is completely immaterial.

Were you using reloads? I had an issue with my Berettas and reloads. Even on the heavy side, according to my manuals, I was getting cycling issues. When I ran factroy Remington HP through mine it worked fine.

yea, get out your calipers and check the LENGTH of the hollowpoint round against the length of the fmj- the hps have to be seated just a tad deeper -or so i've found , but i have an sb- no f

yes. they were reloads, not sure the grain but the bullet was longer than the winchester ranger fmj the guy at the range gave me

i've got loads that would work ok in my uzi ,but not in my 92- the reason was the bullet was seated long and the MASS of the uzi bolt would carry it with enough force to seat the bullet shorter as it fired- plus there's a bit of leade in an smg barrel-with the 92 and the same ammo, you had to push the slide closed and then it would fire- but it wouldn't eject properly- it should have, but didn't- as far as reloads go, i use a 124 lead over 4.8-5 grains of 231- granted that's warm, but i got heavy springs in an old 92 heel catch

Rules of shooting somebody's reloads - know what you are shooting, who made them, what components, PF, OAL, how long he's been doing it, everything!!!
It's not just unreliable loads you may run into, your life may depend on them!!!

I personally saw a gun blow up into guy's face, he made his own loads, doing it for years, luckily, he was fine but a few minor injuries, gun was really blown thou.

When I let my buddies shoot my reloads, I KNOW they are not in any danger as I inspect EVERY round - powder charge, brass, primer seating, crimp.

You just found out the easy way, why you shouldn't use reloads you are unsure of. Finding out the hard way, involves at minimum a broken gun, all the way up to major reconstructive surgery. It's just not worth it, if you didn't load it yourself, how do you know you can trust it. I can accept that if I hurt my gun or myself, with my own loads, then I did it to myself, but I couldn't imagine being hurt by or hurting someone else, not to mention the liabilty involved.

yeah if the ammo chambered the barrel it has nothing to do with the bullet design. Light load for sure.

I never had a problem with my 92

x2 - light load, don't trust other people reloads!
use at least for the beginning factory ammo and "brake" the gun
I shot more then 5K with my Beretta 92 Inox and NEVER ever had a problem with any kind of factory ammo !

No reason it won't take FMJ or HP rounds, heck it's a combat pistol! Light load or the bullet is not deap enough in the case or both.

this is related to a light load...too light in fact, since it fire, but doesn't eject properly, that mean an incomplete cycle of the slide, then the ejector doesn't go in full swing.....i bet some of the cases are trapp between slide and frame.....wich will confirm the problem.

My 92FS won't eject Ranger SXT 127 +P+, but it works fine with Ranger 147gr SXT for some reason. All factory of course.
