I'm doing the research but can't make heads or tails of it.... I want a Beretta 9mm, just not sure which one. What are the differences between the 92FS, the 92A1, the 90-two and any other variant? I'm a lefty, so I need ambi controls. I haven't shot a Beretta, but I like the feel, and I want to replace my Baby Eagle.

92FS - classic & awesome
92A1 - Same as 92FS but has rail for light or laser
90-TWO - meh, I find it a little ugly but probably a very good gun.

92FS Inox is just gorgeous... I'd buy one if I didn't have so many new purchases going right now. A rail is just for 'bubba', don't need it.

I don't need the rail, so it looks like the FS. Is there any advantage to the M9 or M9A1 over the FS?

Go with the 92fs...love the prominent sights.

I believe the M9 and 92fs are the same pistol. The M9 is the designation given to it by the US military.

The 92A1 is the newest version of the 92, the next step after the 92FS, I can't go into details as its been a while since I looked into it, but the 92A1 features some improvements that were needed in the 96, which is the 40 S&W version of the 92. I think the main differences are the addition of a "Buffer", and of coarse the rail on the dust cover. I think that's about it really, although like I said its been a while since I looked into it.

the "M9" is just the US military version, it has a two dot sight rather then the standard three, and I think the grip is a little different. I have not seen an M9 style pistols new up here in a while, so its a non issue in my opinion.

Honestly, the 92FS is probably the best option, cheaper, and has those classic line that made the pistol a classic. And unless your going for the 96, the above improvements are lost on the 9mm.

Related note: If you want a budget "92", the Turkish made Girsan (Right spelling?) pistols are a few hundred dollars less, and form what i have been reading, are every bit as good as a Beretta.

Two dots? Didn't know that.

What advantage/purpose would two dots have over three?

I just got a 92A1 a few month ago and love it. i like having the rail for the "just in case" i feel like putting a light or laser on it. also the 92A1 has adjustable sight and very few 92fs are adjustable

My guess is just the preference of the person who made the final call.

Also, as pointed out by Leviathan024, another difference between the FS and A1 is the A1 has a dovetail type front sight instead of a staked type, meaning the front sight is instaled by sliding it into a tapered notch on the slide, instead if pressed in. This has the advantage of being able to adjust the front sight if say, your pistol is shooting to the left or the right and you need to correct, also easier to replace with an aftermarket set up.

Don't forget that the 90-Two and 92A1 have an internal recoil buffer. As far as I know, other than going back to the classic grips / straight slide on the 92A1, the guts of the 90-Two and 92A1 are the same. Haven't shot the 92A1 but I would gather it shoots as well as the 90-Two.

M9A1 is similar to, but not the same as the 92A1, the trigger guard is different, but both have the rail.

The M9A1 doesn't have the internal buffer or dovetail sights. Good luck finding a M9A1 cause I don't see any dealers with that model. Beretta is busy trying to fill their U.S Military contract so civilians haven't been seeing too many of them lately.

Al Simmons has one in stock. I saw it today in the display
