well, I finally ordered a beretta 92FS last week  I can't friggin wait! this will be my first semi auto centerfire pistol. I have already ordered the reloading dies and brass :D

does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of bullets I should get? Round nose copper plated sound good?

Any general maintenance or suggestions for this gun?

Congrats, you will enjoy it. The only issue I have had with mine was that I was shooting lead bullets and it built up under the extractor; RePete had to give it a pretty good cleaning to get it to feed properly after that. I put a set of Hogue grips on mine, a LPA adjustable sight, and a D hammer spring.

I am shooting plated rounds now and I am not having any problems so far. The guys at the range swear by the 147 grain bullets, but they are not the easiest thing to find at a half decent price; they bought some of the Frontiers but the accuracy has not been the best.

I've got one and it's been a great pistol. Mine shoots anything I feed it. I'm using the Frontier 124gr bullets with Titegroup with decent accuracy (when I shoot a pistol most people recommend I switch to a full choke, I shoot patterns, not groups, but that's my fault not the pistols). It also really liked the Montana Gold 147's. Enjoyn yours.

I'm partially responsible for hoegaardenzo getting a 92FS :D

I found ANY bullet will work; never found a bullet or load that Beretta didn't like :)

92FS is very easy to maintain, I use cheapo Gunslick oil from CT and the gun has aways been 100%

What caliber did you get? Before anyone says anything, Beretta dropped the 96 line, they are all 92's.

As for bullets, Frontier plated RN's are good.

Just clean it after each range trip.

The teardown links are good, but there are tricks that I learnt on the Armourer's course that aren't on the sites. Springs will fly, and they are always the small ones.

not quite Pete, they still make the .40's in the new 90-Two line. Unless that's what you meant of course?

Oh no, I think you are fully responsible ;) Now I'm close to $1000 in the hole and expecting a kick ass gun in the mail. Thanks man!! :D:D

Repete, I ordered the 9mm caliber :dancingbanana: I'm going to be ordering bullets from Higginson Powders.

I'll probably order the 147gr. bullets aswell as the 115, just to get a feel for the different rounds, and also pick up Hodgson shotshell #6

I was just dealing with the 92/96 series and not the others.

hoegaardenzo:

I would forgo the 115's and go with the 124's and 147's.

you will love it. i put close to 1000 rounds without cleaning it. one 500 rnd brick of winclean and a 500 rnd pack of sellior and belltot. never jamed on me! keeps going and goin and going.

For me whether shooting the Beretta 92, USP, CZ, Glock etc I always go with 124gr, preferably Frontier plated projectiles.

Go with larger projectiles if possible, I've had three 92s and I find they all liked 356/357 calibre pills. Most 9mm is .355, at least in Australia it is.
Plated ammo tends to be more accurate than lead as well, I've had tumbling rounds with lead, none with plated or jacketed.
Buy yourself the reduced power hammer spring from the D model & Elite series Berettas, part no is, IIRC C9001. This will give you an 8 pound DA, four pound SA.

Whoa! I got home today and found UPS note saying they have a package for me! I'm going to pick up my new Beretta tomorrow!

I have one question, can I bring my gun to the range with the notice of transfer or whatever its called I get in the mail from the cfc? You know the letter you get before your registration papers get to you.

Thanks.
