Hello, i was looking for my first handgun and i thought about buying a GSG 1911 22lr... but today i went to my local shooting range and i've seen a Beretta 92G in good condition for 400$ (same price as my new GSG).
So i'm now in a dilemma and i want to know your opinions about a 92G as a first handgun. I know that even if i buy a 22lr or a 9mm, i'll buy the other caliber in a near future and vice versa... Is 400$ a good price? I know these brand new beretta's cost around 1000$... Is that "decocker only" version good for a new shooter?

To start as a first gun, 22lr is surely a better choice. Just to get use at having a gun in your hands, reload, store, shoot and clean. But 9mm is more fun or longer despair at grouping. Anyway any is lot of fun.

$400 is quite a good price for a Beretta 92G used, if it's in good condition it would be a good buy. Alternately you can get into a Girsan Yavuz 16 new for not too much beyond $550, might be worth consideration as you would then have a warranty.

If you don't buy the G let me know where I can. Serious.

The G in my opinion, is the only safety configuration Beretta should produce. It's a much better overall option for the vast majority of shooters.

$400 is a real good deal, only thing at that price is how much rounds did went in it.... ? I would Go back and dissassemble the gun to inspect everything...

There is no problem buying a 9mm for a first gun, I did it and 4 months later bought a .22.

The deckoker is really good on the 92fs, no problems for a new shooter.

Get the 92G.

I had no problems with the FS, even with small hands I was able to disengage the safety using a 'downward wipe' (like the 1911) rather that 'pushing the thumb forward' which is much slower. It was one of the few if only slide mounted safety guns that allowed one to do this.

Beretta 92 was my first pistol and many years later I'm glad I got it ! Are you sure that one is a G and not a D model? G models are less common and would be hell of a deal if its in a good shape! D's on the other hands are 99% of the time are police trade in's double action only with spour-less hammers.

Couldnt resist... here is my first pistol! A Beretta 92G
Love the feeling in my hands. Cant wait to go at the range :)

Gonna take better pictures soon... sorry for the crappy cell phone pics

Here's a close view of my "G" model (Not a conversion kit from a FS, also not a D model). Still looking for the manufacture year. I've read Italian made beretta have a code year engraved on the frame But USA made beretta have the manufacture year in the serial number. Ive been told that previous owner was keeping it in the safe for some time so the finish still very good.
