Beretta 9mm or Colt 1911?

Be realistic in how you shoot. I've got both calibers and enjoy both. But the reality is that you're often not going to want to go fishing for your .45 cal brass to reload it if the weather is really sloppy or if you're at a competition where there isn't time to gather your brass.

Also while reloading greatly cuts down the price of shooting any caliber it's a slam dunk fact that .45cal bullets are going to cost more just based on weight if nothing else. So it's still cheaper and easier to shoot 9mm for a lot of occasions. Especially if you shoot in any outdoor competitions.

So the answer is to keep your Beretta, which is a great gun anyway, and get a 1911 as well. Either get a Norc and doll it up with some upgrades over time or save up for a while longer and get a ready to shoot major brand gun that doesn't need any mods. Not to mention that depending on who you talk to the Norc really doesn't need anything to actually shoot. However I suspect that a trigger job done by a good smith that knows their 1911's would be a nice upgrade for pretty much any 1911.

EDIT- I just remembered reading a few pages back that your Beretta isn't your only 9mm. If that's the case and you find that you don't shoot the Beretta as much as your other 9's then by all means sell it to fund the 1911 buy. Just don't turn your back on the 9mm caliber outright since it does have a lot to offer as I hope I've shown above.

And plan on getting into reloading quickly even if it's only for the .45. .45 factory ammo is just too costly to use it a lot. The 9mm isn't bad unless you shoot literally buckets of it per year. In that case you can save money even reloading the 9mm.

Take a look at STI Spartan.

Very good gun, best price for quality 1911.

On the other note, Tim Kennedy tried both handguns you mentioned in original post- Beretta and 1911, and ended up using mostly revolver.
