Ive got one on hold at the gun shop, its used, listed as "very good" for 1300 dollars. Never owned a Berretta before of any kind, always Brownings. Only thing I can find negative is that their hard to clean for some reason. Its chambered for 3" but I'm only going to use it for targets, mostly sporting clays. Is the price fair? Is it a great shotgun?

The Beretta 391 is probably my favourite semi-auto shotgun... yes, it is a good gun... the price is not great, but not bad if it is in really nice condition.

The 391 is a great gun and very reliable. The only issue I had with mine is that it didnt fit me as well as my Browning. As for the price, you could do a lot better then $1300. These guns often show up on the EE around $1000-$1100. To me $1300 would be on the higher end of the spectrum that only a gun that is in excellent or like new condition would regularly command

Whether the price is too high depends on which model Teknys it is. It's overpriced at $1,300 if it's a field model with Mobile chokes. If it's a Sporting with Optima Bore (wider rib, extended chokes) then it is a little on the high side but it's a great price for a Gold Sporting w/Optima (same as Sporting except with nicer wood and a jeweled bolt.) The Optima bore guns came later while the earlier guns had Mobile chokes.

The 391 is my favourite semi-automatic shotgun and I own a 12 and 20. They are light recoiling, reliable, functions well with very light loads right up to 3" magnums. They do have some quirks however.

They function better when well lubricated. I use G96 and spray the magazine tube and the action rails. Mine is "wet" but not soaking or dripping lubricant.

The forend cap is a weak point and should be loosened a couple of full turns turns when the gun is stored otherwise it will seize and be very difficult to remove. One of the things I look for when examining a used 391 is whether it has channel lock marks from a previous owner.

Cleaning and disassembly are easy enough but putting the gun back together can be a challenge. There is an excellent thread at the top of the Beretta forum on Shotgunworld.com that goes through the process.

I've put tens of thousands of rounds through my 391s. Typically I will get 2,000-2,500 between cleanings and there are some owners who've shot a lot more. The only part I've broken is the cocking handle but the gun could still be used.

I think the 391 is a great gun. I shoot mine as well as my o/u, use it for waterfowling and as a loaner gun when introducing new people to shooting.

If you're looking at buying the one from the gun dealer, then you'll be into it for about $1500 with taxes and shipping. Way too much in my opinion. Nice gun though

Yea,its the Gundealers, but I'm picking it up myself because I need a good long motorcycle ride, and since my Buckmark hasn't sold I'm trading it in which will help with the taxes. Sold the S+W 17-3 today,I was going to trade it too.

I have a 391 Urika Gold and it cycles everything and works flawlessly. Routine cleaning is easy and major cleaning is not too bad. I enjoy spending time cleaning my guns anyhow. Make sure to post a follow up after you get out and use. Enjoy your ride.

What a chilly ride! All 945km of it,they said it was supposed to be 14c and sunny, the highest it got was about 8c and the first part of the trip was 2c and foggy. But what the hell,I was on the road, alone on my bike.LOVE it!

Got to the Gundealer before noon.

My hat is off to you, sir!

That purchase became an epic adventure... not the usual attachments to a new firearm, but it will be appreciated all the more for the ride to pick it up...

Thanks Hoyt! Yep,I get that feeling early every spring where I just need a long ride on the scooter, and with a gun at the end of it,one with some purpose. Now if I could just figure out how to put the barrel on? That gas piston dosent seem to go on far enough to let the forearm snap into place? Does the spring need to be compressed? There are two lock nuts to compress it? Anyone?

Be careful and don't force it with the cap. Just jiggle the forearm around a bit and it should click into place. Then gently tighten down the big mag cap.

Thanks Dilly, got it! it was really simple when I looked at it after a nights sleep, after the marathon ride I was to tired to assemble a single shot.

Hey Total Disaster,do you ever shoot at Nova Sporting Clays in ###s River? The gun looks as new to me,but im not as fussy about guns as some are. How long did your buddy have it,and why did he trade it?

I shot there last year I missed the shoot this year. Wife and her friend made the shoot this year. He got rid of it as he has two other 391s. I'd say he had it a year and I'm thinking half a case throw it. No issues just no need for 3 of them :)

Took the almost new,but new to me,Beretta AL391 Teknys to the club tonight and it instantly became my favorite gun! Usually takes a few rounds to get used to a new shotgun, but I found this thing an absolute beast, clay killing machine! I shot 38/50 first time out, unheard of for me,and followed it up with a 34/50 second round. Those are my best scores in months, and honestly,I thought my Sporting Clays passion was fading because I wasn't shooting well and couldn't figure out what was wrong. This is the "fastest" shotgun Ive ever fired, meaning it points on target instantly because the steel 30" barrel swings the alloy frame so nicely. Those Italians know a thing or two about building great firearms, they've been at it 500 years!
