I'm contemplating buying either a Citori sporting (a 725 if I can ever find one in Canada) or a Beretta sporting, and I have a question about the adjustable combs that come standard with these guns. I've read more than one place that if I buy a Browning, I should consider not getting the adjustable comb model because the factory original adjustable comb is of such poor quality that any after-market adjustable comb will be preferable. Is this true of Beretta as well? Specifically, I'm eyeing a Beretta 682.

If you're willing to spend $4000+ on a gun, spend the extra money and get it fitted properly, which would be easier to do with plain wood. Besides, you'll pay extra for the factory adjustable piece, where as you can get a fitting and adjustable comb installed for "around" $500, and the trial and error is removed.

I love my 682, and am finally getting it fitted next week in Montana (S&S Plus in Polson). If you are looking for a 725 give Silver Willow in Carstairs a call, they have a whole whack of new Brownings in stock.

Sounds like good advice. I checked Silver Willow, and their retail operation isn't open until Wednesday, so I'll call then. Thanks for both tips!

Update: Kudos to Sapper33. When I called Silver Willow, they were just carrying a Citori 725 Sporting in the door. I snapped it up before the thing ever touched the store shelf.
