Hello,

I really want to buy a new gun !! Kinda for the wife to use, for when we can get out and shoot again.
She's been only once with me so far and is wanting to go more.
Her being only 5' tall and smaller hands,

which one of these has a smaller grip ? ...... if you know, what's the grip size in comparison to each other, and compared to a G19 ? (which I have one, a gen 1 or 2, not sure, so I can use for understanding the comparison)

which one has less felt recoil ?
Which one has lesser muzzle flip ?
.. easier/more shootable for smaller hands/strength.

I'm considering the following: Beretta APX or CZ SP10 F or S & W M&P ? Other models that I didn't think of ?
PREFER 4.25" to 4.6" Barrel lengths.
hopefully with the grip also being a wee bit shorter than a true full size gun may have (this part less important, as it's not a carry gun).

I'm watching some youtube reviews... it seem sthe CZ has a nicer trigger, but they say it's a bit more muzzle flippy/felt recoil snap to it ?
in videos, the APX seems to have an extra bounce back to it, when slide goes forward ?

Some of these have changeable grips for smaller size, so which one has the smallest circumference ? Ease of reaching mag release ?

I can't get out to different stores to test them now. Anyone know if I buy one, will it be registered and mailed out, or are even current PAL orders being registered ?

And any all steel guns with more weight to them, less recoil, etc. in 9mm to suggest ? I already have a 9mm 1911 i'm tweaking for both of us to shoot.. possibly for some ipsc with it. .. I like the CZ 75 (maybe the omega model), and it's a consideration as well. But was hoping to keep the costs down right now.

I recall when she did come out with me the one time, she like my piatta peacemaker .357 (but when she shot 38 out of it), cause of the softer feeling. She thought the 9mm 1911 was o.k., and didn't love the G19, but liked it more than my .40 or .45, cause of the recoil.

Can’t go wrong with a used CZ SP-01 Shadow.

Always liked CZ and don't own one yet. Can you get thinner grips for it, to help out the overall size to a smaller fit ?
Hoping to find something under $800.
Even less would be good now, but open to it.. Mayb consider used ones, but for now curious for a new one.

I have a Shadow and a P10F. The Shadow has much less recoil, due to its weight. I believe you can get aluminum side panel to replace the rubber ones and reduce the grip size but I haven't looked into it as I like the stock grips.

The APX is an absolute dream. It's like a Glock I think it's better made and more accurate. I may have gone through 1000 rounds no jams. Multiple bullet brands. Very easy to clean. If size is an issue and I know this isn't on your list but single stack magazine Glocks I think they are glock48 may solve your problem. Should be under 700 bucks

Yup. I have thin CZ aluminum grips on all of mine. Dlask usually has them.

Hmm... I do really like the CZ 75.. Funny story to make it short.. when joined a club i rented that gun multiple times and then saved to buy my first handgun, was suppose to be a cz 75, I rented a colt 1911 .45.. shot it very well (but shot it crap months before), now that I had more experience overall, and loved it and bought it, and cz was supose to then be my next gun, but turn of events, for whatever reason, never did yet.
I have 6 now.. not many. few long guns, sold some here and there.

CZ 75 is on short list ... and I really like (haven't shot it) the new browning 1911 .380 .. is perfect for her as well, though super light, apparently it's not that snappy as the 9mm guns I started this thread on.. bit of a downer is the ammo cost for .380 is more than 9mm, likely due to the lesser demand for it :-(
I gotta buy some .380 anyway for getting my colt Mustang out sometimes.

Hopefully, I can manage one for her (anniversary present). haha.. and one new for me.. maybe one of the ones in this thread for myself... CZSP10C or the APX tickle my fancy by design and reviews I've seen.

Would the CZSP10C or APX have more felt recoil than my G19 ? I assume the grips, with the smaller insert would be smaller grip than the G19 ?

If you already have a reliable full-size 9mm 1911 you won’t gain anything with a Shadow. Both are near 40oz, but the CZ grip frame is wider and the trigger likely worse. The only thing the Shadow has going for it from your list is it’s 4.6” vice 5” in the 1911.

It seems like you have competing requirements, wanting both smaller and soft shooting. With your criteria I would forget about polymer and look for a steel frame 1911 Commander in 9mm. It’s 5-6oz lighter than full-size, but gets you down to 4.25”. Put some slim grips on it and you’ll be set.

Does anyone make a commander sized 1911 in 9mm ? 4.25" barrel ?

Anyone know if the apx or sp10c have same, less or more felt recoil compared to the G19 ? and if the grip is smaller ?

APX I find theres even recoil, it goes straight up not up and to the left or right that some and guns do. I find any way. Plus theres a smaller back strap for smaller hands in the case from beretta. my 2 pence.

The SAM looks like a good balance of weight and felt recoil, assuming it'll be a bit more recoil than full size 9mm 1911, but lesser felt recoil and flip, than the plastic options I started this thread about... for the wifie... I am still liking the idea of a apx or sp10c for myself..

checking out some prices out there... Dlask has one too, but pricey. Are Dlask a high quality brand ?

My full size 45 Dlask was built with Nighthawk Custom internals. Has run flawless in the time i've had it.

As for a smaller grip with less felt recoil, my FN FNS-9 is a very soft flat shooter.

My wife is a 5' Filipina who has shot the APX, 92FS, Shadow 2 and Ruger Mark IV (Lite and Target). She likes the Mark IV Lite (weight and lack of flip) the best followed by the APX. The others are too heavy for her and her hand is too small. She can shoot them but she does not enjoy it which is key to her entertaining my hobby. If you can afford it, buy something that she can shoot well when she is with you and buy yourself your toy. A Ruger Mark IV would be my suggestion. If only one gun, then the APX for sure.

Ha, my wife is 5' Filipina too.. she may actually be just a tad under that... :)
I know .22 is the softest.. but that's no fun.. for me.. she might like it, I guess. I don't have a .22 now, so she didn't try one yet..of course she'll say, it's soft and easy to shoot. but I hope she'll be o.k.. with something cooler like the browning .380 1911 or a commander 1911 in 9mm.

Does you wife find the apx to not be too snappy ? I know it has more back and less flip, from reviews I've read, but with it's light weight polymer frame and all, it would be more felt recoil than these two guns I just mentioned..
I guess a .22 to start her shooting alot, and for sooooo cheap isn't bad thing... Hmm... think it's best to get her one only, as a 1 year anniversary gift and not anything for myself right now... whatever I get for her, I'd like to enjoy it too... :)

The kids and I joke she is 4'12". The Beretta has a bit more flip but that is due to the weight as you noted. She preferred it over the other 9mm's I have even though it does flip a bit more because it was not hard for her to hold and aim. She is slow at aiming so having a heavy gun she found tiring. I bought the Mark IV target for me for cheap shooting and introducing friends to shooting. She liked it but again the weight was a factor. So bought the Mark IV lite for her to shoot with a Vortex Red dot. That she likes because it is not heavy, her ability to aim with the red dot made it easy to explain sighting and her groupings have tightened up nicely so she feels proud of her shooting. Cheap to shoot and quite accurate and gets her used to hand position, aiming, etc. I would suggest that as a start personally. It worked in my case.

UPDATE: I narrowed it down to the commander SAM 9mm $575 (really like this), APX , P10C (as per this thread) and found and added the Grand Power Q1S and P1S... apparently these Grand power, for their compact size, have relatively tamed recoil, as per a friend and 2 reviews I found.

So, the winner is: GP Q1S

I wish I could have just bought them all and had fun figuring out which I like the most. Ha.. Waiting for Registration to go pick it up.
Price played a role a bit, as I didn't want to spend much right now and it's different and has good reviews too. $600 plus tax, not bad.
