Beretta Barrel Question

Just recieved a Beretta 92fs in the mail (same one that I ask about in my previous thread in this sub forum)

When I run my fingers over the barrel, I can feel a slight hump. I was worried it had been "walnutted" but when I look down the bore carefully, I can't make out any bulge in the rifling or anything like that. My thought is maybe this is how they are designed? They step up slightly where the falling block is attached?

Can someone fondle their beretta barrel and tell me if they have the same slight hump?

I know I'm being neurotic lol, sorry!

None of mine have any kind of bulge, or otherwise along the barrel. Unless you’re referring to the area directly under the locking block. That area is machined slightly different, a bit flatter than the contour of the barrel to not interfere with the locking block function. The rest of the barrel ahead of the locking block is perfectly smooth, concentric and straight.
Are there any markings on the side of the locking block lug on your barrel?
I wonder if a replacement aftermarket barrel was used on that gun.
Can you post a few pics of this.

If you can feel it, should also be able to see it too

On the contrary. I have been a ceramic tile and stone installer for 20 years, my job is to make things dead flat with no "lippage ". Your fingers pick up the slightest discrepancies that the eye misses.

However, I will try and get a picture that captures it... it is very slight.

I will get some pics up for sure. It is a very minor little hump. I think it is how it was made.

If it is ringed, you should be able to see it in the bore with proper light, I have a surplus 92f, I think it is, can look , but to late tonight .
But ,yes , fingers will pick up stuff you can't see.

My barrel is smooth with the exception of that obvious step up under the locking block and the engraving above. No hump.

So it appears to be more of a "dip" than a "hump"
My fingers must have been picking up the uphill side and I figured it was a hump in the barrel. As you can see it is very slight. I used a straight edge of paper on a black background so you could see the reveal change as you track your eye along the barrel.

The other three pics are for Easy, is she an aftermarket barrel ya think?

Thanks for all the help lads.

Hey, thanks for that. Sure looks like the real macoy. In comparison, it looks exactly the same by the step cuts under the locking block. Also, aftermarket ones I’ve seen are bare stainless metal. No bead blasting. What I don’t see is a marking on the side of the locking block lug on yours. Mine, from early ‘90s manufacture, all have a letter stamped like seen on the locking block itself on yours. I have one of the new models with polymer parts here for upgrades too, it has PB in a circle stamped on the barrel lug. Different from the earlier models.
The dip on the barrel could very well be from an imperfection filed down after manufacture. Nothing to worry about. Barely noticeable. Just minor cosmetic.
May it serve you well.

Double post.

Thank you so much Easy, you have eased my misgivings.

Very interesting info around the barrel lug and falling block markings.

Oh! I forgot to get back to you on what parts are and are not metal on this particular piece. Everything is metal except! ... the lanyard loop spring cup thing. So that's nice. Should just be able to drop in one of those trigger return spring bars no prob.

I look forward to building this one up a little. I have sold way too many.

I pulled mine out, and while I can't really feel it the chamber end is up a hair.
The barrel looks exc, I do see that the chamber in these is tapered, inside, kind of matches the out side taper .
It is night , so hard to get a picture, there is not a step, it just tapers up to back end.
But Gun works fine, other than grips are too smooth and sights are too small for old eyes, Think when it worms from -45 wind shield,
Will have to try some paint on the front.
The # on the gun and frame don't match, it is a factory Beretta barrel.
