Okay so I've had a few gun counter goofs tell me lately that it is unsafe to use Blackcloud in my SBEII and Xtrema 2. Is there any truth this? It was also stated that it will void my warranty.

Thats weird, usually they will do the opposite and try and sell you gold plated shot $$$ to fire! lol I guess all of the Benelli prostaff and Beretta prostaff are voiding their warranties when they go waterfowling. But in all seriousness I think it is bull!

That trick shooter uses Black cloud when duck and goose hunting,i think he is a Bennelli guy.

Only problem you can run into with blackcloud, is using certain aftermarket chokes. The wad-restricting kind like WadWizard or patternmaster. Since the black clouds wad expands from the back instead of the front like a conventional wad where the rings are in these aftermarket chokes screw up the patterning.

For instance my brothers extended pattern master benelli sbe2 shooting black cloud, he had sometime like 20% of pellets on target at 30 yards. Real bad, the companies now make chokes that work better with black cloud but then you will only have the best results using black cloud not other brands.

In another thread about BlackCloud, a poster stated that it was destroying Beretta barrels. I asked why... there was no response.

A shotgun barrel is a shotgun barrel. Why would it wreck Berettas, and not Brownings, Winchesters, or anything else?

I can see the argument about blown PATTERNS with certain chokes though. The Flight Control wad is backwards to a conventional one.

Well hmm, Thomas Pigeon from Canada in the rough is not only sponsored by Beretta but also Federal Premium Ammo, and uses Federal BlackCloud all the time on the show.

All he shoots waterfowling is a Extrema 2. I think guys at gun stores are so un trained and do not even have expeience with 3/4's of the stuff that they sell. The shot stays in the Wad the whole friggen time its in the barrel so how in the hell would the barrel get hurt by a plastic wad!

The only thing I know about black cloud is you shouldn't fire it through wad stripper chokes like Pattern Master and Wadwizard. Pattern master and other companies are now making specific chokes for black cloud (or loads that use the flight controll wad). It is also recomended that you not shoot it through Kicks High flyer becuase they also have some degree of wad stripping effect due to their diagonal porting.

In my opinion, you're better off dropping the $50-120 on a good extended choke and find a load that throws the best pattern. Most loads throw excellent patterns through my browning with a Kicks full or mod choke. I lucked out and Fed speed shok loads pattern excellent and are way less $$. In the long run, you'll save big especially if you go through a lot of rounds per season.

what is so special about black could anyways other then its $25 a box
Nothing, other then the wad stays with the shot longer thus throwing a tighter pattern. I'm of the same opinion as Mojo99, you are better to find a tight choke/load which works in your gun then going with BC. My personal favorite is a Terror .675 and 3" Kent 1 1/4oz.

blackcloud

The federal blackcloud has pellets with a cutter ring. (like the planet Saturn).
They are without a doubt the best steel shot for waterfowl, expensive yes but they work. We use 3 1/2 blackcloud for geese but we use kent fasteel with a pattern master choke for ducks. The blackclouds are just as deadly on the ducks. But my wife says I should spend my money on stupid things like the mortgage!!!

Seems to me that I read on Shotgun World that Trulock Chokes were having trouble getting good patterns with their chokes using Black Cloud. They were working on a choke that would work well with Black Cloud.
